I am moving at the beginning of September and am thinking about getting DirectTV. I assume that is D*? Sorry, new here and just started reading the forums today.

I have a few questions. I will be renting a townhome. I have filled out a satellite installation request for the landlord to sign and approve. I know the installer will need a copy. Anyway, I can't attach the satellite to the home. I have seen dishes on poles, etc in peoples yard. Do I need to provide this for installation? If so, what do I need to provide that will work the best?

Also, I was reading about the receivers. I see the new hot topic is the HR24 and I see they are in short supply. I assume I can request the HR24 when signing up? How come some people are buying them from overstock.com, etc? Is that because they are not eligible for a free upgrade at the time?

Last question. I will be getting 1 HD DVR for the living room, but the two bedrooms just have standard definition tvs. Do I still need a receiver for those rooms? Currently with cable I dont have them, just the HD DVR.

I have heard and read great things about D*. I hope I won't be disappointed.

$75 for a pole? Dish gave me mine as part of the free installation. I'll tell the installer to use that pole when he comes today!

Seems like new D* customers get the new HR24. D* would not guarantee. When the installer arrived, I told him new HR24 and 2 H24s or no deal. No problem says he.

Thats the MAX, sometimes they are free other times not, I'm not sure what determines the cost.

The DISH pole PROBABLY will NOT work.

Go outside and measure the OD of it.
IF it's NOT 2" it won't work.

Dish pole is note large enough diameter wise, I imagine. As far as the $75 charge, I've been charged that by both providers.

If you can't get a Slimline installed on the roof because the landlord won't let you, you can get the pole mount for free.

Do NOT get it put on your roof.

IF you do and you have the bad snows in your typical winters, you'll regret it.

You know, if your handy you can put the pole in your self in an hour or so.

I would look to your local Fence company for a post, they usually are pretty reliable for the right size.

NOT Home Depot or Lowes or Menards, they won't have the correct size.

About 80lbs of concrete.
A hole digger or shovel and a level and something to hold the pole in place while the concrete dries.

Make CERTAIN it's plumb and in a good spot for LOS.

Yeah the Dish pole was too small but the Directv guy dug a hole and gave me a new pole with concrete..All free! The installer was a great guy and actually lived close to where I grew up when I was a kid.
