installing the Dish 1000

I have a dish 1000 installed and have both 119 and 110 locked in. My azm, skew and elevation are set according to dish 1000 specs. I can not for some reason bring in the 129 satellite. My 119 is locked in at 118. I have turned off my receiver to receive an upgrade but so far no 129. I have a 4 510's hooked into a 34 sw feeding 4 receivers. I'm using a DP Twin and DP Dual. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

First thing I would do is bypass the the switch and hook the 129 LNB directly to a receiver and see if you get any signal that way (don't forget to Check Switch). If so, try moving the 110 feed from input port #2 of the DP34 to port #3 (where you should have 129). Now see if you get anything like "119 XXX 110" when you run your Check Switch.

Here is an easy check I use.

While watching locked sig on 119, have someone cover the center "eye". If you lose sig, dish is tuned correctly. ;)

Yup!

I do that all the time myself - very important when (for various reasons) you can't be sure which "eye" is actually in use.

Of course I'm a big liar! :) As you know I've never seen a D1000.
Same for other dishes of course.

If you are not getting 129 in then I would check to see if you are getting 110 in. If you are getting 110 in really well along with 119 then there could be an issue with a wire, hardware, or check switch not performed correctly. You could also have a signal blockage or too low of a look angle/not in an area that can receive 129. If you do not get 110 in very well or do not get 110 in at all then that could be a sign of the skew being off or mast/pole is not plumb. If 110 is off on skew/plumb then 129 is also going to be off even if you have 119 is tuned in.

It is recommended tuning in the FSS satellite on a SuperDish after you tune in 119 as good as you can so you will have an FSS signal coming in to fine tune.

I would suggest tuning the dish with using 129 instead of 119 or 110. We do this here with the superdish. Tune in 121 and then 119 and 110 are good. See if that will work.
SuperDish and Dish1000 are VERY different animals.

Thanks everyone for your reply. I've checked the wires, DPP44sw etc. My signal strength is 119/125 110/101 61.5/115. 129/0 My check swith reads as follows:
119 all 110 all 61.5 all x for the fourth port. This really has me baffled. Can you help?

I live in Social Circle, GA 30025 roughly 50 miles east of Atlanta.

Thanks, John

Do a check switch with the satellite cable disconnected from the receiver then do a check switch. This will clear the matrix. Next bypass the DPP-44 switch and connect the receiver directly to 129 to see if it comes in. You need to make sure that your mast/pole is plumb so that your skew number is true.

See my first post in thread. :) ;)

As you can see 129 is really low where you are. Just like here in midwest.

28.6 deg versus 36

See my previous post. Do you have LOS?

a FNG question and 1st post

I’ve been following and enjoying this forum for a couple years now, and it has been a real education. I live in the Sierra foothills and subscribe to the Sacramento Ca. locals. I currently have a dish 500 for 110 and 119 and a dish 300 pointed at 148. I have a 921 a 510 and a 7200...my question is, what do I need to do so can I install a dish 1000 to pickup the Voom channels and keep the dish at 148 for CBS HD and the pentagon channel ? Right now the dishes run through a dp34 BTW I asked my local dealer and he looked at me like I was speaking Martian.

You'll need a DPP44 switch or a pair of DP21s (much cheaper).

You'll need to pull the DPP-Twin from the D1000 and use you existing standard DP-Twin in it's place.

That leaves you with a perfectly good DPP-Twin for sale - or trade for those DP21s. ;)
