How do they get $250 from everybody that takes it?

Only if you have a lot of receivers. I think its $49 per box and a $50 service call, but they seem to be crediting for the service call without too much provocation. I wonder if you have the protection plan if they're more likely to eat the truck roll.

Its not bad when you consider that MOCA gear (same as deca only a different frequency on the cable) regularly sells for $100-150 used.

Protection plan customer do not get special consideration it like alot of promos and other offers you have a dollar amount on your head that we are authorized ot credit up to as a once a in a great blue moon courtsey. we just cut th service call.

I tried the email approach - I have been using the MRV beta with total success since it started and see no need for further equipment/wiring changes. So I sent the email to which they replied that I had an expired plan (HD-DVR w/locals) to go to my account online and choose a new plan (Choice or above) I saw that Choice DVR w/locals was only a name change from my current plan description. So after I was assured by email from customer service that by choosing this plan it would not put me into another 2 year obligation (nor would selecting the MRV feature) I would then be Ok to add the MRV - well I changed to Choice but still shows me as "not qualified" on website for MRV to call the 800 number, which I am sure they will try to talk me into more equipment.

Now that you've got the right package, send the email again. Apparently anyone with older packages like yours are mysteriously made ineligible for MRV.

The package you changed to is actually a dollar or two more expensive for essentially the same thing.

Great way to flush out the folks who would otherwise have hung out on grandfathered plans. But you end up paying $4 or $5 a month for MRV instead of $3.

I am totally confused i have 2 hd hr22-100 boxes and 3 h 23-600 so tell me what and how to make this work with out having to pay $99 and 50.00 and 49.00 for the install and i am connected via ethernet HELP !!!!! the hd hr22 are dvr's

Call me stupid but I still don't get how they are making $250 off of having DECA and SWiM installed for the customer. They are only charging $99 for the upgrade for as many receivers that need to have it installed not $49 per box as you stated above.

Hmm, I thought the $99 upgrade just included DECA gear for two receivers and a connection to your router for internet interconnect to the DECA network.

Do you see something that says its for as many receivers as you have and not just two? I cant find any such thing.

Funny, directv just sent me an email telling me all about this service with all the steps to set it up, except for the one where you need all this new networking hardware and have to pay $150 to get it.

cfb,
I just sent them the email you posted, thanks, much appreciated!!! I only use the MRV in one other room (the wife and kids could care less about this) so I didnt want to have to pay $150 or possibly higher and have a new install for this. Hopefully this works, thanks for the guidance!!!!!!

MRV with 2 HR-23's

Well, it finally happened (and it was unexpected) at around 2:00 pm EDT this afternoon. I got a message on one of my DVR's saying that the MRV Beta was over. I was sure surprised to find out the free ride was over.

Okay, that's now $20.00 for DVR+MRV+HD, in addition to the $61.95 for the Total Choice package, and another $4.99 for the HD Extra Pack. I guess that $87.00 per month for really cool HD Access is not that bad. AND... I just got MSNBC HD today too!

I guess I don't mind the fact that they are charging more for the service, I've been with D*TV/USSB since '95, and my bill for TV hasn't gone up all that much in the last 15 years, considering that I stayed well ahead of the curve in technology, much more advanced than my neighbors with cable. I had a dual tuner DVR (D*TiVo) years before a cable company ever thought it was a good idea to offer such things.

D*TV just gave me a 2nd DVR (through Movers Connection) for free, so now I have 4 DVRs (2 HR-23 and 2 DirecTivo DSR-708) working and trouble-free.

The call to D*TV today to get the service added took about 30 minutes. The CSR that I talked to had never done it before, but with a little bit of prompting from me, following the instructions I found on this forum, I was up and running without any real headaches, and now the CSR knows how to add the service to customers with wired/wireless connections. I'm using 4 Cisco/Linksys Routers (running DD-WRT Firmware) with 3 of them configured as wireless bridges on each floor of the house without any headaches, and I didn't have to string a single run of Cat-6 Cabling in the house for all of my networking issues.

I wish that I could have done a SWM LNB with the install at my new address, but with legacy equipment, that wasn't an option, and I like my D*TiVo's too much go give them up, and I still need them with a small Dual-LNB dish on a tripod while RV'ing.

Kudos to Jason  (SatelliteGuys.us) and Doug  (dbstalk.com) for the info, it made all the difference. Thanks much! :)

That is funny but I have paid $99 for DECA on 6 receivers ad a SWiM switch. So I guess the $99 is not just for the two receives in my experience.

Well, I am up and running on my own network. Got the Beta is over message, called DirecTV and they had no problem activating. Offered me a free HR to replace my HR10-250 and go with DECA, but I want an HR24. Anyway, activation was simple, Robert had no problem setting me up in five minutes.

I re-sent cfb's email today after seeing the "beta over" message on my HD DVR. Apparently I didn't complete the process of sending my previous one. I re-did everything, got a number for my email to refer to later if I had to send yet another email, took a nap, woke up & had MRV again.

Well thats a really great deal then. Directv will take about 10 years to recoup their costs of six pieces of DECA equipment and the SWM setup at three bucks a month.

Seriously. The cheapest coax/ethernet adapter I can find is about $70 a pop and I think the SWiM lnb is around $30-40? Plus paying for a truck roll? Thats like a $500 outlay.

Hmm, which begs the question...I know you have to return the leased receivers if you terminate. I wonder if you have to return all that DECA equipment too?

There was no SWiM LNB installed. They installed the SWiM16 that costs around $300 retail.

Here is what they installed:
1 - SWiM 16
5 - DECA Modules
1 - Broad Band adapter
1 - Stop Filter

If they are charging people for each receiver beyond 3, this is the first I have heard of it.

Solid Signal has DECA adapters for $39.99 & their Band Stop Filters are $3.99. If you go to Beach Audio, their DECA power inserters are $10.99.

After changing my plan per DirecTV email - and seeing the MRV program notice is over on the TV last night I called - long story short - after a good 10+ minutes on the phone with them they could not turn it back on - they said they would work on it over the next few days???????

I didn't have to go through any of that. I just told the guy I don't want to update but I want the service and he activated it and in 5 minutes after I did a reset everything was fine.

I even asked him during this 10 minutes if I needed to reset the receiver for the change to take effect - he said no - it would be just like them turning on HBO - he said he was getting strange error messages on his end and didn't understand them nor did anyone else in the office he was asking - hence the "we will work on it over the next few days since this is a new service" comment. I even did the reset after we hung up, just in case, with no success.

I had to jump through some hoops, I did the email that cfb posted and got a response that they would have to send my email on to a specialist and see if my request could be processed? I got pi$$ed and sent an email back to the csr stating that i didnt appreciate her "passing the buck" and if she would just follow the instructions in the email we would be good. Not even five minutes later I received a response from a different customer service rep stating that I was good to go and reminding me that this would not be supported. So I did take the csr's name and her id number and did email a very positive letter about her and asked that whoever received it to please pass along to a supervisor. And sure enough I got another reponse thanking me for my email and for complementing the csr and ensuring me that my email was passed along to her supervisor. SO, all in all, it's on, it's working, BUT I HAD TO WORK FOR IT!!!!!! Very happy!!!!

I called and told the CSR I was in the beta and now wanted to activate the service. She put it on my account sent it to my receivers and I was back up in less then 5 mins with the call. I might be a lucky one to get a CSR who knew what to do, but it was pretty painless.
