Apologies for such an academic-sounding title. Curious what people think about the Internet2's effect on competition when it goes 'public' in a few years. I read where a DVD-quality movie can be downloaded in ~ 30 seconds off the Internet2 -- much, much faster than today's public Internet. HDTV and everything else in the video world will be transportable in a pure IP environment. Anybody care to hypothesize about this? Anybody care? :D

Here's an article on Internet2, if you're interested.

My 2 cents: Internet2 is faster because of an upgraded infrastructure that is simply better than our internet. However, as users move to this new internet2, it will also become saturated as our internet already is. It will face the same problems we face today and suffer from the same setbacks. Saying all that, it will be better for a while, but it will slowly turn into the same mess that our internet is in now.

What happens first? Internet 2 delivering HDTV or a working 921 with no bugs
:)
