IPhone 6, 6 Plus?

If someone has an old at&t family plan and has someone that uses a basic $9.99 a month flip phone style phone(grandparent) on that family plan, you can use their line as an extra smartphone upgrade. We do that all the time, only works with GSM carriers though as you can't activate the phone(just move your sim instead) or it will add a smartphone data plan to that line, the pending activation will fall off after 6 months, then repeat.

Also check with you employer for a discount on your rate plan, my employer offers 20% off monthly bill, but also waives upgrade fees, which back in the day was only $18 but have ballooned to $40, so its a nice perk.
