Is Cnn (or Dish) forcing us to watch a commercial screen?

For the past two or three days, every time CNN breaks for a commercial called "The Movies", a new series CNN is broadcasting on Sundays, the picture freezes on the commercial logo screen. It just stays there and you have to hit the recall button which then asks you if you want to go to live tv to go to the previous watched channel. Check "yes" and you are sent to the previous channel as normal. I will check to see if other commercials or stations are affected but so far I have noticed the screen freeze every time it hits this particular commercial screen logo for the series "The Movies". Anyone have any ideas?

I just noticed it froze on a commercial at MSNBC.

Sounds like your receiver is acting up on a interactive commercial inserted by dish

Sent from my SM-G950U using the SatelliteGuys app!

What can I do about it?

I just chatted with a rep at Dish. They said it is a known issue and have a case opened on it. It is a priority case and the rep said they should have it fixed by morning. I guess I should have checked with them before I posted. As always, we shall see.

Since the 536 update I've had a few commercials without audio. Hitting channel up and back down brings it back. Also had a show that was running suddenly switch to a small box in the corner, like a PIP, with the rest of the screen black. Again, channel up and back fixes.

Punch REW a couple times, then FF a couple times, which seems to "confuse" the receiver...which causes it to "dump" the interactive or "inserted" commercial from the hard drive, & puts it back on "live" programming directly from the satellite. I do this on the rare occasions I'm watching live TV, as the inserted commercials always pixelate or look like crap...I'd rather watch the commercials coming directly from the TV network instead, if I have to watch any at all. :biggrin

I've seen similar behavior before on other cable channels. It has been a while though.

For the record, I notice this same picture freeze and no sound on my HWS (with Snap) these past couple of days. The remedy is the same: REW or change channels, etc.

Please confine your off topic and political posts to the "Pit". It seems everytime CNN is mentioned you have to go there.
When whatsoever did I mention CNN's politics in the post? As a matter of fact, some sites on the other side, such as Info Wars, can often post nonsense. Heck, even Fox News can say rubbish from time to time. Also, I don't see you saying "don't get political" when someone attacks Fox News on this site. I NEVER mentioned CNN's politics on that post. In fact, some of the "news" on CNN that has nothing to do with politics is nonsense as well.

Speaking of inserted commercials, how exactly does the Hopper acquire them? Are they downloaded from the satellites or is Dish using my internet connection? They're obviously targeted towards my market (local car dealers, local lawyer offices, etc.) so I know they're not being broadcast on the national channel feeds

I see local ads inserted on non-local channels too. I assume that they are delivered via satellite, probably when the receiver is not otherwise busy.
