Is everything recorded on the 722/922 DVRs in HD, even if it is recorded on TV2?

For example, if I record a show broadcast in HD on TV2, then later watch it on TV1, will I be seeing it in HD? :)

Thanks!

Chris

All of the tuners are HD capable. The only thing that is SD is the output to TV2.

But remember you have to be recording from a HD source. A sub channel will be SD and a satellite delivered channel can be either SD or HD.

For those channels that are available in both HD and SD, you have to chose which you want recorded. Most folks would default to the HD channel but there are times I record the SD version by choice to conserve HDD space...

It is not doing any conversion on record. It just records the bits as sent by the satellite. It does the conversion when it sends it to your TV. If it was an SD stream from the satellite it will scale it up to the specified HD output. If it is HD it will scale it down to SD if TV2.

Recording SD from an HD channel would get into patent problems, TIVO and others.
This, just as recording OTA analog channels would have and that is why the 501 etc. did not record any OTA.

If you are referring to an OTA multiplexed "sub-channel," then, believe or not, there are some sub-channels in HD. As one example, Living Well Network channel is in HD in many ABC O&O markets on the sub-channel, along with useless SD channels, definitely in HD here in L.A., and they finally have it looking decent and have minimized the break-up on the main KABC HD service, but still a compromise.

Yep, there are beginning to be some HD subchannels....
