I just got a new lcd hdtv and want to upgrade from the Directv plus dvr to a new HR21. Is there any way to xfer the programs I've saved from the SD to the HR21? OR...can I remove the hd from the SD, install in an external hd enclosure and xfer the programs to my media pc?

The only good way to do this is to transfer them to a PC with a capture card. You will need to play all the recordings but it will allow you to save them. I don't know of a way to then put them on your HR21 but you will at least be able to keep the recordings.
You have to output normally and record the shows.
Either via PC captrue, DVD recorder, VCR, etc. There is no way to transfer the shows to another DVR.
