Is my beloved Hopper 3 dead?

No signal
Stalls on check switch
Timers missing
Recording schedule missing.
Can't read guide.

Can navigate menus and watch recordings.
Did all the resets except factory reset. What does that do?

Moved recordings to EHD in anticipation of replacing H3.

Anything else to try ?

Thanks

If you guessed it was the coax you would have been right. Don't know why bad coax would cause
loss of timers and recording schedule. It is a 150 foot run that had been used on a C Band system
and finally gave it up after 30 years.

Apparently signal loss causes Hopper 3 to lose some of it's brain. I was certain the unit was bad
but a new one didn't work either.

Glad that you found the problem.

30 yr old C-Band coax isn't rated to 3Ghz.

I don't know anything about that but do know this.

The C Band was installed in 1989-90 and ran on the Denver 5 until switching to
DISH in 2005-6. We connected a 625 receiver to the coax and used that until a few
years ago we switched to Hopper 3 using that coax. It failed a few days ago.

Maybe ratings are overrated.

Those other receivers don't require 3 Ghz cable, but the Hoppers do. I'd guess that the cable for the C-Band Dish was probably rated @ about 1850 Mhz.

Can you clarify that for me, HipKat? I thought the 3GHz cables were only needed for the segment that carries both the signals from the LNB as well as the MoCA signal. I have a shorter run going to my H3 (50'?) but I kept my already-installed RG6 cables throughout. No issues.

MOCA is on regular TV signal frequencies, therefore standard RG-6 will suffice. From the lnb to the Hopper 3 GHz is required due to the band stacking that allows so many channels to be used at once.

For several years I had been running Hopper 3 on 30 year old rg-59.

I'm guessing the complete signal loss had nothing to do with it's tested ghz rating.
