So I'm waiting to watch Lincecum and the Giants in HD and Dish Network is showing a Reds game that is taking forever. I know JIP means joined in progress, but is this another uniquely Dish Annoyance or do others pull this crap?

What channel?? and why is it Dish's fault if the game is running long???

On my local RSN! Comcast Sports Bay Area. Why is there even a Red's game showing here??? It's not that the game is running long, it's that it doesn't belong on channel 419 in the first place.

If you got the game on your rsn, you need to contact them and not Dish. Dish supplies what is uplinked to them from the station. They cannot change feeds on the rsn channel, Alt channels may be different. Note: the Heidi game was Jets vs Raiders, one team had a decent lead, but the game was not over, the network switched to the movie Heidi, but the team that was behind scored twice and won the game with mere seconds remaining. Since then most networks will not switch from close games. It seems that your rsn will not change to the game at all and lists the next game as jip (once first game is over).

Does your HD RSN map down to the SD channel when there is a game? If so that is why

Dish doesnt have enough bandwidth for all the RSN channels so they try and make it work by running a game on a HD channel from noon to 3:00 from the East coast and then reuse that same transponder for a west coast game

Dish either needs to do it or not do it. If you can't do it right, then don't even try.

He should have watched my Cardinals defeat the Reds in 10 innings. It would be a lot more entertaining than watching the Giants lose!:D

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll happily take a Giants victory over the Dodgers in 13 over an NL Central game that I don't care about.

I'm with Dish because I'm a fan of my local teams and don't care about out of market games. If I had any desire to see the Cards and Reds, i'd be MLB EI with Direct. :D

Sorry, but it is Dish doing this. We used to have A's and Giants on one channel and yes it made sense that they would join in progress if one game overlapped another.

They were having the "Check back often to see if..." screen up until the TP was available. I guess someone at Dish decided they needed to have something there so today they put up the game using the TP, which was way way out of market. lol

i'm not sure I understand what the map down part has to do with this.

Yeah it was a good game and in Charlie's eyes I should be happy I got to watch both using PIP. My game in SD and the "free" game using up the bandwidth where my game in HD should be. No, Charlie, I am NOT HAPPY!

Giants won in 13, btw. Charlie would say I only lost one net inning! 9 - the 5 I missed + 4 extra

nope. Couldn't find anything on google. Whatever it is, it doesn't apply to what i'm talking about anyhow.

I typed "Heidi Rule" in google and got [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidi_Game"]Heidi Game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Text_document_with_red_question_mark.svg" class="image"><img alt="Text document with red question mark.svg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a4/Text_document_with_red_question_mark.svg/40px-Text_document_with_red_question_mark.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/a/a4/Text_document_with_red_question_mark.svg/40px-Text_document_with_red_question_mark.svg.png[/ame] as the first response.

See ya

You think I'm that stupid? Nice! It is still irrelevant.

Apparently.....................

Bottom line is Dish doesn't alter programming. If that is what the RSN was showing, that's what Dish was giving you.
Bottom line is that is a dead wrong statement and what this thread is about. The RSN was showing the local game but Dish was giving an out-of-market game.

You are stupid. Seriously, that Heidi Rule doesn't apply here. Except to say that I don't expect Dish to cut one market's RSN to show another market's RSN. So they (JIP) instead.

Dish can only send to it's viewers what is being sent to Dish.
That's that.

There is no "Heidi rule" per se.
The fact that the network's (NBC if memory serves) switch board was bombarded and actually jammed with inbound calls from angry people in both the New York and Oakland,CA markets.
Even though this was a AFL game, the NFL changed it's policy to allow a game in the respective markets of the two teams be shown in it's entirety.
Cutaways are still permitted.
A few years ago, former 60 minutes host and CBS news anchor Dan Rather wigged out when an NFL game ran long and delayed his CBS Evening newscast.
The bottom line is the NFL is king when it comes to netowrk programming.
