I just canceled the SiriusXM in my car. They offered me the 6 months for $30 special again.

I said no thanks.

The reason or canceling is we took two of the phones off our account as the people on it moved away out of state, but kept the same data package of 60 gig a month. (Its still cheaper then us going to unlimited) and I experimented over the last month only listening in the car via the app. (I have a lifetime radio and online streaming account) so I figured why pay for the same thing twice. :)

I have heard of horror stories of people trying to cancel, but this was pleasant and lasted less then 5 minutes.

The streaming audio quality on the app should always be significantly better than other the satellites. In my car, Sirius doesn’t sound that bad on most stations. 80s on 8 is exceptionally good, and always has been. I think that’s because it’s the most listened to channel. Too bad I generally hate 80s music aside from some of the glam metal stuff. But on the rare occasion I’m flipping through and Poison or Kiss come on, they sound significantly better then when I hear the same songs on Boneyard

Most of my smartphone life I've been with either Sprint or T-Mobile with unlimited data, so data caps are never an issue, but there two providers lack the coverage need to stream were I travel the most. Even on rural stretches of major interstates there's not enough towers to have interruption free streaming. Plus its so much easier and safer to use the steering wheel controls versus messing with the stupid phone.

I have been calling in asking about the year free subscription that came with my new car.

They say the promotion doesn’t exist and offer 3 months instead.

I sign up with a fake name, use the trial and let it go into non-pay 2 months later.

Then do it all over again.

Sometimes they offer me the $30 for 6 month deal, sometimes they don’t.

I honestly don’t see the value in paying for them to listen to Fox News and the 80’s station

I always love it when you admit to outright theft. You actually do it more often than I think you know, especially when you advise other members how it is done. You reap what you sow!

Thats not theft, thats using what they are offering ...

Believe me, they KNOW who it is and where he's at even if he gives a fake name ... the account is tied to him.
Unless he has fake credit cards as well. :eeek

The key is that he said that he let''s it go into non-pay 2 months later. So, he is using some form of bogus payment to begin with. If nothing else the 2 extra months is a purposeful cheat and I consider that theft. I believe the law enforcement folks call it forgery....

Everytime I call to cancel I always keep refusing offer till they offer me the same $30 for 6 months.
A year ago they offered me 6 months for 30 and included streaming.
So now when I call to cancel I say no and they offer me the streaming and car radio service.
The streaming is a lot better than the sat service.

With the advent of being able to listen to SiriusXM with Alexa the value of our subscription has increased. You can set timers for certain shows or games etc, wake to a certain channel and listen in rooms with no increase in cost........ I still call each time our subscription is coming up to get the best deal but we are using SiriusXM more than ever.

There are two 'legitimate' ways I can think of to game the system with something like this

1) Use prepaid credit/debit cards

2) Use a virtual credit card

I use BofAs Shop Safe virtual cards all the time when buying things online from iffy and down right shady places. Usually set the limit to $5 more then the total purchase price of the item I'm buying and have it expire after a month.

I can relate to not finding much value in a service, but using it on a rare occasion. I think Netflix down right sucks and would never pay for it just to watch three original series. But I wouldn't use the above methods in combonitation with throw away email addresses to get a free Netflix all the time just to watch the shows I care about. At some point you've gotta pay for the content you want to consume. This kind of reminds me about the people who would brag about ordering HBO on Sunday nights for The Soprano's and cancel on Monday mornings and get the pro-rated rate of a couple dollars month or do the same thing with boxing matches. This is why we have downgrade fees and such.

I find tremendous value in SiriusXM and after having satellite radio for over 16 years, I don't think I would want to be without it.

I have never subscribed to SiriusXM because of the bad experiences people have had when trying to cancel. Their cards kept getting charged after cancellation. So I consider them a shady outfit. I have heard of people being taken to a collections agency for non-payment after cancellation. That was long ago. I don't know if they still do that?

My 2013 Corvette came with 1 free year of SiriusXM. After the free trial ended they sent me countless letters trying to get me to subscribe. Fortunately they didn't have my credit card number!

Just called in to cancel after my $30 for 6 months was due to expire for the 20th time, and asked if they could do 12 months for $60 and they did! So now i'm good for a yr!
Wow, thats great .... (also more like what its worth ... )
They offered me the $30 for 6 once and I asked about $60 for 12 and they responded like I was stealing candy from a child.

Alexa plays Sirius ... WITHOUT an addl. radio fee ?
Thats good to know ...

I wanted to play it thru my home A?V system but they required another sub ... I don't use it THAT much in the home, but thats good to know.

What do you have to do to listen to Sirius channels on one ?

"Alexa play SiriusXM Channel 6" Alexa says "Ok Play SiriusXM Sixties on Six" Or "Alexa play Boston Red Sox Baseball" etc You don't even need to know what channel.
There is no extra charge because it is considered part of your online subscription.
