Wave of the future and something Id jump on IF the equipment wasnt so much... I am fixing to experiment with Vudu HDX again to see what i think of the service.

Yup if their equipment was not so expensive, I would jump on this in a heartbeat!

For me, I buy Blurays and rip them to my NAS, some rips work, others do not...

This would take care of all of that and I would also be legal.

Scott:

I have only had 1 or two playback isues with about 300 rips using MakeMKV on my Mac. That's direct from bluray and hd-dvd.

I was shocked at the price for the gear, just dont quite understand that. Make a base model just to allow download and playback of these full AQ/PQ files and throw a 2TB drive in it. If you make it expandable, no big deal. Someone like me who watches most stuff once, is all about convenience.

Personally, I don't mind opening the box and pulling out the disk. There is something special about the physical media: being able to hold it in your hands, showcase it on the shelf, browse the enclosed booklets, etc. If the price is similar, I would definitely prefer the physical media.

Sony's $699 player will make a lot of sense for Ultra HD though, since no physical media is available yet.

I still rip all my BDs to my NAS. Although I have slowed way down on my BD purchases. I prefer to stream just because it is easier than ripping.
