Does Dish Network offer locals only or are they available only with a "package"??

You can get programming 'less than' a package by paying a monthly "access" fee, which IIRC is $5/mo.

I believe that you can therefore get locals only for about $11/mo total.

yep.
All I have is locals & WPIX (for WB since Duluth doesnt have a WB OTA)
5.99 locals
1.50 WPIX
5.00 BS fee

Total is about 13.25 with taxes

You can get locals only for 5.99 if you get "locals only" through an account specialist(customer retention). If you add any other programming besides basic programming then yes there is a 5.00 access fee

cspiteri, just ignore that previous post. It's wrong. Listen to the first two replies by two people with a combined 7400 posts. They know what they are talking about.

Chad: Don't be so quick to judge.

Muck might be correct in that if you grovel and threaten and pray and generally get lucky, you might get that deal.

Goes to show you just how totally frelled E* business actually is.

I know people in that department, its right. not something they offer to all customers but is there as a save possibility.

Is this something you got years ago or *recently* ?? Many people have "grandfathered" programming packages, ones that a new customer today will NOT get.

Nah. Read the post. He says if you add other programming other than basic programming, there is a 5.00 access fee. That doesn't make any sense because the fee is only charged if you DON'T have basic programming. As long as you have AT60, there is no access fee but when you drop basic programming, there IS a fee. He's just misleading the OP.

The number of posts does not say wheather someone is wrong or right. Yes I am new to this forum but I am not new to the Satellite business. As it is called "locals only" it is 5.99 with no access fee. If a customer asks for this or is interested in this they are transfered to an account specialist to have this set up. Iceberg is charged a 5.00 access fee because he has WPIX along with his locals. Or if you add a premium package or international with locals then there is a 5.00 access fee but locals only is 5.99 a month with no access fee.

"The access fee is a $5.00 monthly fee applied to all accounts that do not subscribe to one of our basic programming packages (America's Top 180, Top 120, Top 60, DISH Latino Max, DISH Latino Dos, DISH Latino or Dominion Sky Angel). The costs we incur to deliver Specialty Programming are far greater than what we pay for our basic packages. This small monthly charge allows us to provide Specialty Programming at a reasonable price."

That's funny. I don't see anything about an exception for local channels.

It is not something E* promotes or advertises. There are several things that E* does that are not advertised or promoted but are used to help reduce churn. Locals only for 5.99 is one of them. It just cannot be setup by a front line agent and there are different disclosures from when you own your equip or if you lease your equipment. Of course you must qualify for a local DMA also. It's great for customers who are in financial distress and/or customers that only watch there locals.

Well I just sent an e-mail to ceo@dishnetwork.com and asked about getting "locals only" and this is there response:
"Normally there would be of $5.00/mo for not having the basic service. There could possibly be more charges (don't quite know), but I would have them contact customer service about the issue just to be safe.
Thanks,
Judd Strickland
Executive Office of DISH Network"
Not a 100% of an answer but I would think there is atleast a $5.00 fee on top of the $5.99 locals fee.

Of course the executive offices wouldn't openly discuss it since its not an avertised price. Locals only as has been explained is correct and a btw, dominion programming doesn't require the 5$ access fee either.

Not sure where this was gotten from but from the vocab sounds like the res agreement.

What's your point? It clearly says that the $5 fee does NOT apply to any of those packages. No one said Dominion had the extra $5 fee.
