Locals Only???

The access fee is a $5.00 monthly fee applied to all accounts that do not subscribe to one of our basic programming packages (America's Top 180, Top 120, Top 60, DISH Latino Max, DISH Latino Dos, DISH Latino or Dominion Sky Angel).

Again, thank you. ^_^

Is this something you got years ago or *recently* ?? Many people have "grandfathered" programming packages, ones that a new customer today will NOT get.

When Duluth locals came up 4/15/04, I "moved" and dropped AT60 & Mpls locals for just Duluth locals and WPIX. I had WPIX earlier in the year. There always has been a $5 fee for me, but I had club Dish so until November 04 it was in essence "waived".

Can you get just locals now, I don't know. But I assume so.

As it is called "locals only" it is 5.99 with no access fee. If a customer asks for this or is interested in this they are transfered to an account specialist to have this set up. Iceberg is charged a 5.00 access fee because he has WPIX along with his locals. Or if you add a premium package or international with locals then there is a 5.00 access fee but locals only is 5.99 a month with no access fee.

irrelevant. The $5 charge is because I don't have At60. I could get Sky Angel and then it would be waived, but I'll stick with the $5 charge.

Sky Angel technically isn't part of Dish Network. It is its own company that happens to use Dish Network equipment.

Well, since you obviously cannot read, I'll help you out.

"The access fee is a $5.00 monthly fee applied to all accounts that do NOT subscribe to one of our basic programming packages (America's Top 180, Top 120, Top 60, DISH Latino Max, DISH Latino Dos, DISH Latino or Dominion Sky Angel)."

In other words, that says that if you do not subscribe to at least one of those packages, the charge appears.
It does NOT say that Sky Angel accounts are charged the fee.
Let me repeat several more times:
It does NOT say that Sky Angel accounts are charged the fee.
It does NOT say that Sky Angel accounts are charged the fee.
It does NOT say that Sky Angel accounts are charged the fee.

If you used your logic, that would mean America's Top 180, Top 120, Top 60, DISH Latino Max, DISH Latino Dos, and DISH Latino would incur the fee as well.

As I said before, NO ONE SAID SKY ANGEL IS CHARGED THE FEE!

Now, if you can't figure that out after four different explanations, I can't help you.

Chad - don't judge people by the number of posts. Thats just silly.

Second, you all sure do like to have a pissing match, huh? How about someone with Dish services call them and say 'I want to get just locals only but do not want to pay the b.s. 5.00 processing fee.' See what happens...

That would mean that the difference between SkyAngel and the $5 access fee would only be $7 making it a bargain for some to order the SkyAngel service.

Also one should not have to talk to an account specialist in order to get a package that does not consist of a basic one such as AT60/120/180 or Sky Angel.

Be lucky that Dish Network offers this to you because DirecTv doesn't. Also if you have a DVR you will be charged $10 instead of $5. Also you cannot forget about the additional outlet fees and if you got a promotion with Dish Network such as leasing a 522 receiver or have DHA then you MUST have an AT package.

I'd also like to point out that most companies do NOT show all their promotions and programming packages on their website. Nor will they even offer it to you - unless you are cancelling.

I have worked for several large companies and can tell you honestly that each and every single one has 'special' deals for their retention (cancelation) departments. This is to reduce churn mostly, but more importantly for revenue and customer satisfaction.

"If you can keep a customer with you now, there's a better chance they'll stay with you for the future" is a very common practice with most major companies.

I have tried to cancel my phone service with Sprint PCS for 3 years and every time I call, they offer me another deal with more minutes for less money monthly. And yet their website does not show any of these packages.

You have plans to get new customers and you have plans to keep customers - you only advertise the ones that make you money.

Don't tell me what to do. It's not silly. They have over 7000 posts between them and Iceberg even has just locals. They know what they are talking about and they are correct. The offending person was presenting it as the rule, instead of the remote exception to the rule. Sure, you can just about anything if you scream long enough. Doesn't mean it's a general practice.

Since you want to chime in so bad, do it yourself.

Ok then I won't tell you what to do. I'll simply state:

Its dumb to judge people by the number of their posts. Just because they don't have a large number of posts doesn't mean they don't know what they are talking about and just because someone has a lot of posts doesn't mean they are always right.

Is that better?

In regards to your statement about downgrading to just locals to see if I could - I would gladly do so, if I had Dish services in my home.

Who said you had to have DISH services in your home? Call as a potential new customer.

One thing that is really stupid: using numbers to pose as letters, as in "h0m3rs1mps0n." Not much stupider than that. If you want to play the sarcasm game, I'll play all day. :D

Just for the record, the following packages are now considered "basic package" and not subject to the $5 fee:

America's Top 60
AT120
AT180
AEP
Dish Latino
Dish Latino Dos
Dish Latino Max
Dish Latino Everything
Great Wall TV Package

Sky Angel is not a Dish Network service and therefore also not subject the the $5 fee.

Though Dish treats it as a basic package now, it doesn't have to...meaning that some one who subcribes to Sky Angel and locals may have to pay the $5 access fee for Dish Network service without a DISH NETWORK basic package.

See ya
Tony

You can get programming 'less than' a package by paying a monthly "access" fee, which IIRC is $5/mo.

I believe that you can therefore get locals only for about $11/mo total.

Hmmm, so I guess if I want to go with voom but still have my locals (can't get them OTA) that would probably be the best way to go. Now, if I can only trim about 30 feet off some pine trees to get a satellite lock on 61.5...

Voom has ceased taking new customer orders and will shut down by the end of March.

Go to the following link for proof: http://www.voom.com/
