What does logging in with Facebook etc. mean ?

What does Mark as Read mean ?

You can log in using your Facebook account. Makes signing up easy for new users.

Mark as read marks posts as read so they are no longer showing as new Posts.

I have never used that feature anywhere on the Internet. I speculate that your website has to authenticate off Facebook somehow, and then get all sorts of personal data back again from them. Is that how it works? I view such a scheme with some skepticism.

I quit Facebook a couple of years ago. It wasn't for me. A lot of weird and political stuff there. A lot of untruths too.

Yes it gets your email address, your name etc. Which is all the same things the system hear normally asks for when you sign up.
