Who would you have chosen and why didn't they go after it?

As it was (and is again today), DIRECTV was something that its owners were publicly seeking to unload.

Come to think of it, few companies have changed hands so many times as DIRECTV (with the possible exception of someone like Harmon Kardon or Denon).

Except when AT&T bought it, they paid $67 Billion ( including debt).

When the TPG Capital thing happened, it now has a value of $15 Billion ( properly less now since that was two years ago).

And no one still wants to buy it.

from here-

The deal will value the AT&T businesses around at $15 billion. AT&T acquired DirecTV in 2015 for $48.5 billion ($67 billion with debt).

So why does att still want 70% control. If it were me ide off load it and stick with fiber since that's where the money's at!!!

AT&T owned DIRECTV outright. What they "wanted" shouldn't be confused with what they got.

TPG was only willing to pony up for 30% of the DIRECTV (plus some percentage of the debt) plus control of the company. AT&T sold 100% control of DIRECTV's daily operations to TPG.
