Lost DVR recordings

VIP 722, this second one, had it a couple of years. First one died from heat stroke, now I have an external fan to he'll the cooling process. Dvr has worked like a charm no glitches no problems. Also have an end.
We record 2-3 programs a day. Usually we don't get around to watching until the weekend.
Yesterday my wife noticed that the only recordings on the dvr were those that had recorded earlier that day. The recordings on the ehd are all there.
So what happened? Is this an indication the hd is failing? Or was it a fluke.

I vote for "hard drive failing."

Hard reboot & see if they show back up. If not then either the HDD is having a problem or someone screwed up.
