Apple announced macOS Sierra as the successor to OS X El Capitan last week at WWDC 2016, introducing new features like Siri for Mac, Apple Pay for Safari, Auto Unlock, Universal Clipboard, and new iCloud features that will ship to customers later this fall. After nine days with the first developer beta preview, more than a dozen publications have published an initial round of previews of macOS Sierra including some new details about Apple’s upcoming Mac software update.

I am not a developer, but I used googled methods to download Sierra,(on a separate partition) on my Imac), TVOS 10(had to buy a C cable) for the Apple TV, and the new OS10 remote, and IOS 10 for my Ipad. It does take some searching, I used the ipsw method after a couple of failed attempts. ron

I think all of our Macs qualify for upgrades. Not too sure about my in-Law's, though.

I did the $49 update even though it was working fine on Sierra as I hope to get a new Macbook Pro in October and will want to move Parallels over to the new machine. So this way my license is current and I can download and install it again on the new machine. :)

Today's the day! Who among us will be the first to pull the trigger? (Beta testers don't count since they've already made the leap! ;))

I have a Mac Mini that my wife uses so she has been volunteered to be the test case. B-I-G download, plus lots of App updates as well. New Numbers, Pages, Keynote version for macOS Sierra.

One feature I'm excited to try is Copy-and-Paste between iOS and macOS. But I'm holding off on installing this on my iMac for now.

Anyone else having an issue with Time Machine stuck on 'preparing backup' after Sierra? Haven't had time to troubleshoot properly yet.

In the past that's been the case due to the large amount of files changed. Do you have directly connected Time Machine backup or to a Time Capsule/NAS?

Netgear NAS. I did hook up to the same switch via ethernet cable. Let it run for hours. The most common fix online seems to be deleting some inprogress file. I may try that and let it rip again.

Think I figured out my Time Machine issue. backupd was consuming a core and doing no IO or network activity. Uninstalled Sophos anti-virus. Reboot. backupd is now using a reasonable amount of CPU and much IO. Thought of this because Sophos has misbehaved in the past after an OS update.

Edit: Now backing up 12.83 GB :thumbup

My MBP mid 2012 is running better with macOS Sierra. In fact for the first time after an OS upgrade I am seeing better performance and better battery life.
My MBP has 1tb ssd and 8 gb ram.
