Mad Scientist Hooks up 5 Satellite Locations!!!!

Unh. You're not really using 2 DPP44's in that configuration, but thanks for trying. ;)

The cascade outputs of a DP switch are simply "copies" of the corresponding LNBF inputs.

In some ways you can think of it as the output of a DP Splitter.
 
I know this is an old thread but let me throw a little bit of fat on the griddle.
Last week I was doing a service call on a 322 system connected to a dpptwin, I went to the check switch and noticed the hit or miss 110 ghost on tuner one thats only supposed to happen on new out of box units hooked to a dp44 switch. Well I replaced an unrated wall plate barrel and hooked the coax back up, upon running the check switch it ran 1 of 14 on tuner one and 1 of 3 on tuner two. I gave up on waiting to see the outcome so I have no idea what kind of configuration it would give out and did a front panel reset and did the nifty trick of flipping the seperator to do a 1 - 2 / 2-1 to clear out the ghos issue. So from reading what you said at the beginning about what I believe was 12 orbital slots it would seem that E has hidden configuration possibilities for even more, I wish that I had been more patient and waited to see what it would have said.

seen it before. Considered getting one once, but you can't find reversed DishPro Lnb's, so it's worthless for more than 3 or 4 sats with Dish.
Great in Europe though, with all the birds above them.

Going for the gold with the 921! Part 1: experiments with the DP+separator

Emboldened by the unbelievably easy install of 5 satellites on the 811, it was time to tackle the most finicky of Dish receivers.... the dreaded 921.

The first experiment was a simple failure :eek:

Well I really did not think it would work, but I decided to test it out and see if Dish miracles could happen. It is the most difficult possible configuration:

1. DP+separator attached to the two inputs with about 1 foot of cable
2. Power inserter about 1 foot past the DP+separator
3. Line to the outside to connect to the DP21
4. Connections of the DP21 to the DP+44 on side 1 and 105 on side 2

Note that before the addition of of the SW21 the 921 was seeing 4 satellites on the DP+44 using the separator to feed both inputs with one cable from the switch.

This experiment resulted in only 1 satellite visible, 105 on the SW21. It is understandable since I suspect the DP+44 was not receiving power from the power inserter since it was behind the DP21 switch. One has to wonder when the DP+21 comes out next year if it will pass power through it.

The next experiment was to move the power inserter to the roof and put it between the DP21 and the DP+44 switches. This produced a most interesting result. I was surprised that it worked like it did, but the mysteries of the DP+separator are not solved! Note the screen shot here of the switch matrix test. You will see tuner 1 found 4 satellites and tuner 2 found 5! Of course this experiment was not really expected to work since the DP21 is not a DP+21 and the receiver has no real way to ask it for the separate bands from different satellites.

As a last ditch effort to see if there was any way to get the separator to work I put the DP21 switch on the other side of the DP+44 switch. I hooked up one of the LNB feeds of the DP+44 to the receiver output of the DP21 and hooked up 2 satellites to the DP21. This resulted in no switches being found at all... Curious the DP+44 did not even show up.

For your amusement I attached 2 screen shots of the DP21/DP+44/DP+Separator combination. Note that it sees a satellite on one tuner but not the other.
