MANY HD CHANNELS GONE ON 72 WEST?

Confirmed! (Well, at least for new subscribers, starting in October?)

The return of All American Direct in HD, at least for the Eastern states. This time, they will offer multiple cities in HD from the Eastern and Central time zones. This is all part of Dish's plan to completely stop offering local channels. Those who can get them for free OTA will have to watch them that way. Everyone else will qualify for distant networks provided by a third-party. :D
I'd dislike that since I can only get some of my channels ota and it is spotty

Isn't 72 only for the Eastern Arc? Will the Western Arc get 4K/UHD at all?

Earlier this summer, Western Arc has some 6 or 7 transponders that are completely empty, have only a couple of channels that could be moved, or are only being used for test channels. So there is definitely room right now on Western Arc. At one point Dish had an entire transponder on 110 devoted to 4k earlier this summer. Since the uplink machine stopped working, the lists of the transponders aren't accurate anymore.

EDIT - Looking at "The Lists", which were last updated on 6/21, There are 5 transponders on 119 that are either completely empty or have test channels, and 2 on transponders on 110 that are empty. One of those 119 transponders has since added the distant channels.

...which could be a clue about what Dish is going to do with the transponders on 72.7 ;)

Yes the Olympic Channel is coming by the end of the month, don't know any details on it though, its its HD or 4K (or both)

With that said people I have been talking to at DISH understand that we have the best receivers on the market and nothing in 4K to watch on them. From what I hear they want to change that. What that means... I don't know. ;)
Will the Olympic Channel be part of the Sports Package like Universal Sports? Directv has it on an Elevated Channel Package. We will know soon, hopefully, how Dish will do it.

So, are DIsh subs essentially getting almost all our channels, plus locals from a single bird now?
I suggested that Dish should do something like that, although I thought the single bird would be 72.7, to serve subscribers who choose Flex Pack without locals. (or now, any package without locals) It seems that Dish has found a way to free up enough space at 61.5 to allow that to be the single bird solution, whether you have locals or not. (The exception would be the local markets that are still being served by the 77 satellite.)

I think that all the locals that are on 77 sat are also duplicated on the 61.5 sat as well. I don't really know why they even keep the 77 sat for locals anymore.

That's why I only said "pretty sure." I tried looking under "Markets" but the list for Cincinnati wasn't working at all.

Ok. I stand corrected. The 77 sat isn't needed for a any other locals other than Cincinnati, Ohio. :biggrin

So all these moves will give DISH more 4k? Or are they compressing the channels even more, by putting more than 8 hd channels on a transponder?
