I think your theory is absolutely bonkers. If they thought it wouldn't last, they wouldn't have green lit the series. There's no way they release a series that they think will tank and damage a multibillion dollar brand/franchise to provide a lead in to a movie that will crush the box office regardless of said prelude.

You are of course entitled to your view as I am to mine. My bet is that this show will peter out soon in ratings, unless they do get some big talent super heroes to grace the screen soon. So far the ratings have dropped from the initial ones on the season opener. Well see if they keep dropping or pick back up.

I have a feeling that if they don't come up with some real superheroes to spark some stories with action that this show will end up like I predicted originally. Boring side stories based on secondary characters from the original Avengers movies won't cut it. They need some big talent to keep people hooked.
I disagree. I think frequent cameos of the movie actors hurts the shows chances for long term success. Best to keep them at arms length, since Coulson is a popular character by himself.

I don't think that Coulson by himself can keep many people watching. He is funny but not enough for his own show. But we shall see if the ratings keep dipping or go back up. The next Thor movie is right around the corner at the theaters. A little cross merchandising and movie references/tie ins in the show, might cause a resurgence of ratings in the short term.

Haven't watched tonight's yet, just finished the first 2 episodes. Personally I liked it, no need for a bunch of superheroes if the storyline is entertaining. It looks like this thread is turning into last years Revolution with everyone predicting its imminent demise.

Revolution could bite it after this year if it stays on the same plot recycled over and over again: Someone is captured, tortured, escapes and is then re-captured and the cycle starts all over again. BORING! As for Marvel Agents of Shield, the judge is still out on whether it stays up on ratings. I am still watching, but I am liking it less and less with each unremarkable episode.

I enjoyed last nights about as much as the previous week, and much more than the first. Solid episode IMO.

I agree. The show needs to make it on its own merit to have a chance.

I am not sure I understand the concept of having 2 geeks (I mean techs). In theory, one is bio and the other is tech, but they pretty much just do the same job in the show. I know you need a token geek, and a token person who spoke with non-American accent, but why 2 of them? As if 2 geeks are not enough for the special unit, you add another hacker girl in there. No wonder the the agent guy complains! If you really get to hand pick a team, wouldn't you pick some red shirts as security details? :p

I think Coulson is a robot or android too. That's probably the big shocker at the season finale that will hook you in for the next season.

For the same reason NCIS-LA added the girl geek to be with their guy geek, to give geeks out there false hope that there can be a pretty one of them to hook-up with at work.

?Also as a plot device you can see them talk back and forth to reason out a problem, that way the audience can know what they're thinking.

I liked this week's episode, but I'd still like to see real story arcs rather than jumping from random mission to mission without any connection. I'm sure some things will return, like obviously that gravity device in the vault, and I'm sure that Quinn guy will be back. But so far no long-running storyline is being developed beyond the issue of Skylar's loyalties. Episodic "mission of the week" shows get old for me real fast.

Geeks come in male/female pairs in every Joss Whedon series:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow/Wesley
Angel: Wesley/Winifred (Fred)
Dollhouse: Topher/Claire
Firefly: Kaylee/Simon

However, the Shield geeks don't really appeal to me like the geeks in the above mentioned series did. For one, I can't understand half of what they are saying because of their accents combined with highly technical jargon unless I put up the closed caption.

That's funny. I watched every one of those shows (Firefly and Angel are my favorite), but I never really those listed as geek pairs. The reason is that they are not always together in one scene doing the exact same thing. And do they have to deploy the 7 bots every single field trip? The only thing more annoy than a fast talking geek reading a script of non-sense is TWO fast talking geeks reading the same script!

Tried to get through the 3rd episode and couldn't stay focused . I rewinded a couple of times to see what I missed ,because I zoned out and finally gave up after 30 minutes in and deleted the show. I simply don't like this show and its focus on minor characters and the boring plots. When you have to work this hard to watch a show it simply isn't worth it. Besides I have way too many good shows this season to watch and too little time , so the boring ones are the first to go.

Yeah it's probably time to quite trying to get through them and just skip this show from now on. It doesn't seem like you have liked any of the episodes so it's probably not for you.

I do like the show though. I don't need iron man and Thor to hold my attention. Right from the start they said this was a show about shield, not the avengers so I knew what to expect. What they are doing works just fine for me.
