Marvel Getting Extremely Close To Signing Joaquin Phoenix As Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange Will Be An Origin Story http://news.yahoo.com/doctor-strange-will-be-an-origin-story-090107618.html
It looks as though ‘Doctor Strange’ is going to get his very own origin story… despite rumours that Marvel was planning something different.During an interview with IGN, Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed that ‘Doctor Strange’ is going to be an origin story… and why this is going to be awesome.“Doctor Strange has one of the best, most classic, most unique origin stories of any hero we have, so why wouldn’t we do that?” he said. “That was sort of always the plan. How you tell that origin, perhaps there are ways to twist it or play with that, but for the most part, it’s a gift when the comics have something with such clarity of story and of character. That doesn’t always happen in the comics, and when it does, you use it.”Of course, comic book fans will no doubt be pleased.Dr Stephen Strange was originally a talented neurosurgeon who is forced to quit his top job after a freak car accident shatters the bones in his hand… and he is no longer able to operate. Travelling the world in an attempt to find a cure for his trembling hands, he eventually finds the Ancient One – a mystical being versed in the magical arts. After a confrontation with one of the Ancient One’s apprentices – the evil Baron Mordo – Strange convinces the hermit to teach him his mystical ways, becoming his apprentice. And this is presumably the story that Marvel wants to bring to the big screen. But for a long time, rumours persisted that Marvel would be going in a different direction.

Rachel McAdams Rumoured To Play Night Nurse In Doctor Strange
The cast for Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ is shaping up very nicely. Benedict Cumberbatch is taking the title role alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo and Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One.Rachel McAdams is set to be play the female lead, but until her exact role has been a bit of a mystery.Latino Review reports that the actress will play Christine Palmer, aka Night Nurse, a sugical nurse who tends to various superheroes in the Marvel universe.Oddly this isn’t the same Night Nurse who has appeared alongside Doctor Strange in one of the character’s best arcs, 2006-2007’s 'The Oath’ (that’s Linda Carter - pictured below). However, given Palmer is a surgical nurse and Strange is a surgeon, this suggests there might be a rejigging of the comic backstory to make them colleagues, or something like that.McAdams playing Palmer would also but to rest the natural assumption that she would play Clea, Stephen Strange’s main love interest in the comics. This leaves the opportunity to introduce Clea further down the line.

Doctor Strange Just Cast One Of Its Key Characters http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Doctor-Strange-Just-Cast-One-Its-Key-Characters-91917.html
With almost a year until its release, Doctor Strange has already built an all star cast featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the eponymous hero, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, and Rachel McAdams reportedly playing an iteration of Night Nurse. As the movie inches closer to production, another actor is close to joining the project. Steve Jobs'' Michael Stuhlbarg is being looked at for a key role in Marvel’s magical 2016 entry.Stuhlbarg is currently in negotiations to join the Sorcerer Supreme’s solo movie, which begins shooting next month in London. THR was the first to break the news, but shortly afterwards, Variety reported that Stuhlbarg is going play Nicodemus West, a "rival scientist of Strange." Assuming that this character report is later verified by Marvel, this is a possible indicator that his adversarial relationship with Strange in later years will be used as inspiration for the movie. In the comics, West was the doctor who operated on Stephen Strange’s hands after he was involved in a car accident. The procedure left Strange with severe nerve damage, meaning that he was no longer able to practice surgery. Feeling enormous guilt and desperate to make amends, West tracked Strange to the Ancient One’s Sanctorum in Tibet, and after the elderly magic user saw West was dealing with his own pain, he offered to teach him the mystic arts. However, West left before he completed his studies, and his first attempt to heal someone with magic resulted in them dying. This led West to abandon magic and take up a position as CEO at a pharmaceutical company, though he would call upon his magic to fight the Sorcerer Supreme in the miniseries Doctor Strange: The Oath.

Here's an sneak peek at Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange http://finance.yahoo.com/news/benedict-cumberbatch-appears-photo-set-222700148.html
Marvel Studios’ upcoming Doctor Strange movie has begun filming, so it was only a matter of time before we got our first look at Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch on the set of the film.As usual these days, the first photo from Doctor Strange is of the unofficial variety, and features a somewhat blurry shot of Cumberbatch looking a bit ragged as Dr. Stephen Strange on the Nepal set of the film.Posted by Twitter user Prayush Khadka (aka @Technicalyright), the photo captures Cumberbatch mid-scene as the man who will become Marvel’s “Sorcerer Supreme,” surrounded by members of the crew and some filming equipment. Not only does Cumberbatch appear to be sporting something similar to the trademark facial hair of Dr. Strange, but the Nepal set of the scene suggests that the film will indeed draw from the character’s comic-book origin story — specifically, the former neurosurgeon’s journey to the the Himalayas in search of a mystical cure to the injuries that ended his career.
