Need some insight into the Merc 2's channel sort/naming method, I don't seem to be able to get it. Using mine for c-band scanning right now, since I do not have a c-band lnbf (yet) I usually scan V, then flip polarity on my GI 650 analog rec, and scan the H polarity. You would expect all the V channels to be in order they scanned in, then the H ones, but after scanning the 2nd polarity, Merc 2 seems to go back and sprinkle the H channels into the V channels, so I have 2-3 of one polarity, then 1-2 of the other , etc, causing me to flip the polarotor back and forth.
Why won't the channels stay listed in the order they scanned in? Does anybody else's Merc 2 do this. And it names the channels 1, 1, 1, 1, over and over, I'll have 5-6 channel 1s', then 4-5 channel 2's, etc. It's crazy.
It's nice receiver with great PQ, just wish I could figure out its system.

Press OK to display the channel list

Sort by:
  • Alphabet
  • Satellite
  • Network
  • FTA
  • CAS (encrypted)
  • Locked
  • TP Frequency

Since many channels do not transmit a Service ID (NAME) the receiver calls the channel by the order it scans. You might consider exporting the list into a Channel Editor and entering the desired channel names.

Need any more ways to sort? LOL!!! Maybe by polarity???

:up

Thanks Brian, I knew about the sorting options already, just thought maybe there was something I was overlooking. Yeah, sort by polarity would be nice but I don't have any other
receivers that'll do it either. Yet, all the other boxes I have will leave the list alone after I scan c-band, and all of one polarity will be listed together, then the others. Unless I rescan the same sat again later and it finds new channels.

What firmware version are you using? I seem to remember some posts from some people who were getting duplicate channels and other related problems from one firmware version, but that it was fixed in a later version. I can't remember the exact symptoms. I don't remember that problem myself, even though I used the Mercury in the same way you describe, scanning in V and H separately, however I wasn't using the suspect firmware version, plus it's been a while since I've used my Mercury much.

Anyway, it might be the version of firmware you're using.

Had the latest firmware loaded, I think that was 1.53. But when the newer model , Dynamic, came out, I decided to try it out so I loaded it. Couldn't really tell any difference so I don't know if using that firmware may have caused the weirdness. It's prob just the way the firmware works, but I might factory default it and reload the 1.53 again just for grins. Hadn't used it much for c-band, so I don't know if it was working that way before I changed the firmware. I don't think it does that on ku band though, as far as the channel-numbering..

Edit: After reloading the 1.53 software and factory-default, it's working right! I blind-scanned a bunch of sats and it goes V, then H and puts the channels in order that way.
