In case you are unfamiliar with what this is, it is presented by the VR AR MR team at Facebook Meta. As part of this event, the latest Quest 3 will be announced as well as some new VR games.

The Quest 3 is expected to offer some major new features including AR (Augmented Reality) and MR (mixed reality) in addition to the Quest 2 that is VR only. Meta

If you like gaming on a game console or a computer, VR is the next level and the big difference is it puts you in the game where as the game consoles just have you watch a game on a screen.

Haven't we been hearing this for the last four or five years?

Have you ever seen an arcade machine with VR?

The video simulates standing in front of a console and that's just silly. I'm talking about games where you are immersed in VR as I expect Star Wars Pinball approximates.
There are stand alone games like that too but I'm not going to do the search for you. If you are really interested and not just trying to be negative by asking and then keep adding conditions, you'll be able to do a search for yourself.

What the game room does is give you the feel of being in a massive arcade. The StarWars Pinball one has both options that plants you inside the pinball table point of view but still does not allow you to ride on the ball. That would be a cool option.

People don't buy a TV to watch one program. People don't buy a Quest to do one game or app. It is a tool that opens up a whole new environment to experience being in the meta world. Some are pure fantasy while others are like reality.

I'm not adding or changing conditions. I'm wondering why, if VR gaming is so awesome, that I've never seen a VR setup at a video arcade.

It isn't VR if your just sending a Sheldon bot to take your place at the console.

I think the big roadblock to a public arcade having VR headsets would be sharing the headset (keeping it sterilized between players) and making a one-size-fits-all unit. VR in the home has a higher bar, but is much more reasonable than assuming the risks of public VR.

Agree.
Harshness often poses some vague point and then keeps refining it. I don't understand why he is always so negative on stuff he doesn't understand. This like many threads is to alert interested people of news on what's coming soon in this "Gadget" section.

As far as public Arcades, the last time I have seen one is on a cruise ship and most all cruise ships have them. A year ago my grandsons had a blast in there until their money ran out.

For the moment, VR and AR systems for general use are being set up in industry in design centers. I know at home my wife has trouble because of her vision so I purchased a set of snap on prescription lenses for her. The new Quest 3 is supposed to have a special face frame that allows prescription glasses to be worn inside the Quest 3.

I see the days in the thread title are wrong. The time is Wednesday at 1PM EDT according to the latest info I have.

I don't understand why you think I don't understand. ;)

How are you going to generate interest if you don't expose the market to something. No market can survive on the few who can justify buying a headset until the justification becomes a lot easier. The chicken and the egg is perhaps nowhere more prevalent than it is in VR.

Some people are just slow. Others are eager to try new ideas. If VR was so unpopular it would have died off with the Oculus Rift. Not to claim everyone needs to enjoy VR, but enough will to make it worthwhile. So the technology keeps advancing. That's what this thread and for that matter what Satelliteguys is all about.

I'm not trying to generate interest. I just wanted to alert others that Metaconnect will be taking place this week where INTERESTED members can watch and learn. I'm not a big fan of Mark Zuckerberg but I do give him kudos for putting his money behind Oculus and making the Quest a huge affordable success.

It's like the Apple watch back when it was announced. Many claimed it would be a dismal failure as "nobody needs to have a watch that works like an iphone." I was an early pioneer with a Sony Smart watch and my Sony Android phone. When Apple showed the Apple watch I switched to iphone for the watch because it was so much better. People laughed at the idea and claimed it would never sell. Today, I walk through crowds and the most common watch is the Apple Watch. Seems everyone has one except those who don't understand what the big deal is. After all who wants an Apple Watch when you can walk around staring at your iphone? LOL!

What is VR's killer app that has driven its adoption thus far?
There's enough to appeal to every one. First you need to understand what VR and AR and MR really is. Once you understand, then you get creative and pick through a huge library of applications and games. But in general, most of the people I follow on You Tube are gamers who have graduated from the console games and PC games and were looking for something better.

Science fiction is one of my favorites:
Star Wars Galaxy's Edge
Vader Immortal series
Red Matter 1 and 2
Hubris

You can search the titles on YT and view full playthrough of these games. The Quest has a way to record your travels in the game in 2D.
What's fun is after you complete a game, wait a month or so and then play again but this time take a different path. See all new stuff.

Travel video is also interesting as more and more travelers are shooting with VR180 and VR360 cameras. I enjoy shooting my travel videos in 3D VR but it is more work in editing.

I have looked at some of the underwater stuff being a retired diver but these are not well done. Since my health issues I have only snorkeled and shot 3D non VR but viewing these in the HMD is nice too. Insta is a company that makes VR cameras I have one VR180 3D and one VR360 2D. I also have a VR360 3D camera with underwater housing It's made by Vuze has 8 4K cameras

Some are into Porn and there is a website that is sex like real in VR180.

The Oculus Quest 3 is going to be AR and MR capable so this opens up a whole new experience. Should be interesting to see what doors this opens for Quest 3 users.

Edit- One more genre I forgot about that is very popular in VR- Exercise videos- Beat Saber is very popular. One I tried is a walking or running on a treadmill that takes you on a journey cross country with scenery so the treadmill exercise is not so boring. Boxing is another.
There are even vests accessories that have haptic impact when you get punched.
