ahh you beat me to it. yes agreedObviously a classless move by Ireland. Apparently, the intent of the line of questioning was to see what kind of reaction he would get out of Bryant. If that's really the case, why didn't Ireland say so immediately after asking the questions??
Also, it's a clear abuse of power too. Say a few years from now, Bryant has a good career and is a free agent. Would Ireland be asking questions like that when Bryant is holding the cards??
I'm not getting the 'see what his reaction would be' thing. What would his reaction prove?
Sandra
I don't agree with that type of questioning either, but apparently the thinking is to see how a player reacts to a "your momma" moment off the field. I don't see how you can compare someone saying that in a social setting, and someone asking it in a job interview setting.I'm not getting the 'see what his reaction would be' thing. What would his reaction prove?

"One team I interviewed with asked me about being a white running back," Gerhart said. "They asked if it made me feel entitled, or like I felt I was a poster child for white running backs. I said, 'No, I'm just out there playing ball. I don't think about that.' I didn't really know what to say."
Agreed. "Going all Jim Everett" on him would have been justified.
CHRIS is nuts but jim rome is an a-hole. he still is an a-hole.I bet you won't say it again.
I bet I will Chris.
What about race questions?? Aren't those normally taboo??
Toby Gerhart talked about one of his interviews:

These aren't job interviews, they're just interviews. Job interviews allow for protections from discrimination.
Everything will be done to distinguish the Pacman's from the Tebows.
What, these guys aren't interviewing to be hired by a prospective employer??These aren't job interviews, they're just interviews. Job interviews allow for protections from discrimination.

Are you condoning the GM asking Bryant if his mother was a prostitute?
Sandra
Any other words you want to put in my mouth?
They are interviews, not job interviews. I'm not condoning anything, and don't care about the issue so that's all I was replying to. It's just flame bait for people to tee off on and argue about, it's just a headline and something I don't care about.
Players aren't hired, their rights are owned by those who draft them.
"We need to make sure the men of this league are treated as businessmen," players association chief DeMaurice Smith said in a statement.
"During interviews, our players and prospective players should never be subjected to discrimination or degradation stemming from the biases or misconceptions held by team personnel.
"NFL teams cannot have the free reign to ask questions during the interview process which can be categorized as stereotyping or which may bring a personal insult to any player as a man."
"For the past year, active, former and incoming players have heard me speak about the expectations we have of them as members of this union, their teams, communities and families," Smith said about standards of behavior.
"It is equally true that the same kind of respect is demanded of their employers."
