A long time ago, I was a Dish subscriber of only international channel. My dish was pointed at 61.5, and I ordered the system from fleabay through some promotion. Anyways, I have DirecTV now, and have been for over 10 yrs. I still plan on keeping DirecTV, but I am thinking about getting Dish for their international since they expanded their programming.

I was on their online ordering site to see what kind of deals they have, and have a couple of questions since their site explains crap....

1: Can I only receive Taiwanese: Mega package without any base packages?

2: I see there is an option for: Chinese: Great Wall TV/Elite package for $0. I tried to add Chinese: Great Wall TV for 32.99, AND also ADD Taiwanese: Mega for 29.99. how come it wont let me select both? I have to order some basic for $10 which is retarded. $10 compared to 32.99...

3: Are Dish Networks dish all-in-one? Compared to DirecTV's Slimline 5 and the 95 dish. I might consider adding HD. Do I get a TurboHD dish or something?

4: I want the ViP922 DVR. The price is $199. Do I own it or is it mine to keep afterwards?

5: I dont like contracts... If I but the stuff from fleabay; Dish and receiver am I still locked in one even though I didnt go through their channels???:confused:

I think thats all the questions i have right now... thanks in advance!!

If you are truly in NYC (as your loc says) you will get 2 dishes. NYC is on Eastern Arc so you'll see 61.5, 72 & 77. But most of the international channels are on 118.7 which requires another dish. If you were further west you could get one dish that sees 110/119/118 (INt'l) and 129 (HD)

as for the "base" package you do need at least the Int'l Basic package now. It use to be they'd charge you $10 "just because" but now they throw some channels your way

* BBC AMERICA
* BYUTV
* C-SPAN
* Christian Television Network
* COLOURS TV
* ETERNAL WORD TELEVISION NETWORK
* Eurochannel
* EuroNews
* FRANCE 24
* FREE SPEECH TV
* HITN
* KBS WORLD
* KIDS & TEENS TELEVISION
* LINK TV
* NASA
* NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY/UNIVERSITY HOUSE
* RESEARCH CHANNEL
* TRACE TV
* TRINITY BROADCASTING NETWORK
* UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
* V-ME

I just noticed that when I was on Lyngsat. There is no international programming on the eastern arc. I really dont want to put up more than 1 dish. I love my DirecTV too much. Their programming, and receivers are awesome!

I was hoping you didnt say that about the Int'l Basic package. Thats why I was hoping to make up for it with the Chinese great wall. At least I will be paying for something that I might watch.

Do you know if there is a 30 day money back guarantee?

1 & 2: Accodring to another thread here, dish is doing some changes to the international programming on feb 1st, so you may want to hold off until then to see if there are better and more logical deals.
4. It's $199 for leasing it, which requires a 2 year commitment and you'd have to return it.
5. If you buy your own equipment from a 3rd party, you don't have to make any kind of commitment.

You mentioned you may add HD, dish offers free hd for life, but that requires a 2year commitment even if you own your equipment. Might be worth it to just commit, you'd save a lot of money on equipment and programmming.

I agree ;)

Chinese Great Wall is considered a "base pack" last I checked. But if you got just the Taiwanese package (or really most of the Int'l packages that are under $30) they USE to enforce a $10 "just because" fee...at least with this they throw you some public interest channels and a couple more Int'l channels

Do you know if there is a 30 day money back guarantee?
not that I'm aware of

Dish made the Int'l changes back in November
http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-ne...price-changes-coming-11-11-a.html#post2374231

DISH Network will be changing the pricing for International package as of 11/11/10.

The first change is a new $10 International Access Fee will be added to all international accounts except Great Wall TV / Chineese Elite Package.

International customers will have the Locals Only price increase a penny to $10.00
Exisiting International customers who pay for the Locals Only package will not see the International Access Fee added to their account.
Note: if a customer subscribes to a core package (like DISH America) with their package then they will not have to pay the $10 International Access fee..
so the OP can pay $10 and get locals only + INt'l or $10 and get the basic pack + what he wants. Or get Great Wall + the Tawaineese

I was thinking dish was moving International programming over to the IPTV platform (neulion)?

There are more changes coming, check this thread out: http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-network-forum/240769-euronews-la-carte-4.html

Looks like both pricing and programming changes. I think there are still more in the works.

but those that Scott posted were just a couple price changes..the $10 base package thing is still required in this case unless Great Wall is considered a "base" package

We do require that you have a core package on the account. You mentioned you wanted a HD package, we do carry HD core packages.
The upfront cost for a VIP922 is for a leased receiver (MSRP is $649). If you do not want a contract we do offer plans without them, but you will get the best deal with a contract.

Wait a few days

Just because they made some changes in Nov doesn't mean they may not do new changes 2-1-11. There are supposed to be change some things around on the 2-1. So I would wait a bit. If the international programming stays on the same sats it will take 2 dishes for you. They can't do it with one dish as the sats are too far aport to do that. All thes sats for D* are within about 10 degrees of each other. The sats for E* are spread across the US in what is know as "2" arcs. One for the East 61.5, 72.7 & 77. The WA arc is is 110, 119, 129. Right now a large amt of the international is on a special sat at 118.7 that uses a different feed than other sats. So if you wer what is know as WA it can be done w/ 1 large special dish. Where as in NY it may be that you will have to have EA & a special dish for the 118.7 sat. Now it may be possible that after the 1st some of the international programming packages will go on EA and then you would only need 1 dish. So to sum up wait just a bit longer & see if anything changes before getting the equipment. The 922 that you want does have an additional almost 200 fee to get it as an upgrade as it is the newest & most feature laden unit out there. No there is no 30 day trail. Once you sign you are under a commitment for 2 yrs. So be sure before coming to E. But the 2yr commitment is the same if a person goes w/ them as well. Unless you need to be able to sling TV to another room or watch over the net then you don't really need the 922. Just go w/it's little brother the 722k which is just as good but w/ just a few less bells & whistles. The 922 also has a newer GUI user interface which is supposed to be really good.

The Taiwan Package is not worth the price. They repeat the shows over and over and over again. The same old series repeat every 3-4 months or immediately again on a different time slot. The reason for the price drop is to grab Direct TV customers from Mandarin Direct. Not to mention, news news news on 6 stations between 7-10PM prime time (CTV, TTV, CTS, ETTV NEWS, ETTV FINANCE, ETTV WORLD, FMI) Some stations are suppose to air 70% of the programming for its country and the station. Instead, they air a bunch of old Mainland shows in between off their video rental collection. All the stations are control by the video distribution company which opens more sub company under different name, but control by one big company. Back then, some big shows take 1 year to get on the station. Right now, 3 weeks when the video/dvd business went down hill and no one wants it.

Not even worth $40 bucks before or $30 right now. It should only be worth $20 a month.

Also, IPTV contain more of these stations at a cheaper price.

The Taiwan Mega Package should only be worth $20.

Just ordered service..

Untitled.jpgThis is a contunuation from my thread from last night: http://www.satelliteguys.us/dish-ne...-consider-dish-international-programming.html

So I gave in, and ordered service. The lady on the phone had no idea what she was talking about. She was from jersey, and I am from NYC.. so i know how jersey people are.. lol j/k

Anyways, she was saying I only need 1 Dish. I ordered the AT120 with HD for life, and Taiwanese mega for my international. Can someone clarify what kinds of dishes i need, because i plan on buying some
pole mounts so i dont have to drill into my roof... http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.as...ter-Diameter-Wild-Blue-Compatible-&c=Mounting Supplies&sku=
Also, she mentioned that I can watch my recrodings from my living room onto my bedroom both in HD.

24 months commitment, and when the technician comes to install, I can still back out if something doesnt seem right to me. After the install is completed, im locked in....

I can also downgrade at any time, just have to keep a base package. She also mentioned that after the 12 months, i can change my programming to a package called americas choice or something like that i forgot. it is suppose to be 29.99.

Does all this sound right to you guys? I still have directv, and still wish to keep directv (I invested too much into them). I have 10 DVR's with them, and planning on replacing 2 of them with Dish receivers.

Thanks in advance!
Also attached a copy of my service stuff from the e-mail they sent me.

I don't see free HD for life listed, I'd double check and make sure they added that. It shows up on my bill. If you're using one dish to get everything, it would be a dish 1000plus. But that would be western arc, 110/119/118.7/129. That's what I use, but I'm on the other side of the country in Arizona.

If you're on eastern arc, which I believe will be the case, i think you'd get a dish 1000.4 and a dish 500plus for international?

merged the new thread into the one you already started (easier to follow along)

Being in NYC you WILL get 2 dishes. An Eastern Arc for most of the programming and a D500+ for the Internationals

Looks good to me except for this:
Also, she mentioned that I can watch my recrodings from my living room onto my bedroom both in HD.
With a 612 and a 211, you will not be able to watch recordings on the living room 612 from your bedroom 211 in HD unless you run an awfully long component or HDMI cable from the 211. Is that what you intend to do?

Just a couple of things, with this set up you cannot watch your recordings in your master bedroom and free HD for Life is missing from you confirmation. If you would like to send me your phone# on a private message, I can correct your work order. Just let me know! Looking forward to having you as part of our DISH Network family!!

screw it.. I am going to cancel my order. 24 months is a long time to commit, and its already starting off bad. Sales rep neeeds to be better trained and informed.

thanks everyone for their inputs.

I am truly sorry but I just wanted to be honest about what you would receive. If you decide to change your mind, I would be happy to help in any way I can. We do want to be sure that you get what you are expecting when the install happens.
