Unfortunately for me I am the first install by someone who knows very little about Voom.He has assured me that my signal strength of 40 is superb as "only"30 is deemed acceptable by Voom.My S/N ratio is 15.23.Are either of these figures any good? The installer was not aware that the OTA coax lead was to be attached to the Voom receiver and did not even install the Module as he assumed it was the diplexer.Instead he fed the antenna lead directly into the TV! I am not sure if he understands that in order to receive HD on my HD ready Sony 40XBR it has to go through the box. What do you do when you know very little but your installer knows ZIP ???

hal26,

Welcome. If I was an installer and I did this for a living, at least I will try to gather information. So did you install the OTA module? The Satellite might need repeak but before this you need another installer. Send "Joe Harkins" <jharkins@installs.com> an email with your predicament and ask him to send another installer to do a better job with you Satellite and OTA installation.

I was trying to do the poor guy a favor by not requiring him to drive the 40 miles to my house by meeting him halfway to get the module at 10 this morning. You guessed it-he did not even show up.So after an hour of waiting I left. When I called him he swore he was there...yeah right...what do you expect for $6 an hour. What do you think about my original question? Are these numbers OK?I would rather deal with this on my own if at all possible.Do I need to tweak the dish? Thanks,Hal26

Yes, it needs tweaking. B

What is this module that is mentioned? Is it the long box that can be removed that has a coax screw on lead, it's on the right side of the back of the Voom box?

Yes... it is

What gets me about these guys (the so called installers) is that if they don't use a particular peice of equipment in the Voom package for whatever misguided reason, they have no business taking it with them when they leave. It is OUR equipment, it does not belong to them. When I was installed back in november, my installer stole the amp right out of my stealth (after I had watched him put it in). When i noticed a problem later and looked inside and saw that it was gone, I called him and he said "I didn't think you needed it"....anyway I made him fedex it to me

Sean whats the best way for me to go about getting the upgraded OTA the channelamster some have mentioned 4228 I think? I live about 50-60 miles away from locals ant in mountainous are would that one help out any? If not what do u reccomend

Perhaps you mean the 4228? Channel Master doesn't make a 7884.

The 30" dish to reduce/eliminate rainfade is the Winegard 2078, in case you were confusing the two. Winegard also makes a combo UHF/VHF antenna with the model number 7084.

Ken, I guess that is the one I meant. I need one that's violet on the pie as channels are 50-60 miles away and are VHF and live in the mountains with one i direction it needs to face.
