Missing info on recorded movies

Good Morning everybody: :) This is my first post-so please forgive as I stumble thru this. I have been using a directv dvr model r-16 for about 2 years and about a month ago the dvr failed and had to be replaced and the replacement was an older r14. The problem I encountered was that after the recording was completed --the program description is missing some information--namely the year the movie was made & who the actors were.If you have 20 or so recorded movies to choose from & you have no clue as to who the actors are in it-you get kinda lost.Anyway--I called directv and requested that the reciever be upgrated to r16 in hopes that my recorded program descriptions would return to normal---not so! I have not been able to get any help from directv whatsoever.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Don

Thats odd, they usually give you the same model you had.

You say you had a R16 and they sent you a R14 ?
It's probably a R 15 as I don't remember a R14 being made.

As for the addl info your missing, I think that is a software issue not a recvr issue, at least I think so.

Have you tried updating your software ?

Menu - Set Up- System Set up- Reset - ReStart Recvr - then dash in the yellow box.
Whats gonna happen is the recvr is going to do a proper shut down.
As soon as you see the Blue Welcome Screen hit 02468 on the remote and in a few seconds you should see a screen saying something about downloading new software ...

IF it doesn't work (new software), you waited to long to push the code in, try again, and do it just after the lights come back on the unit at full power.

Hopefully that will fix your issue.
 
Thank you for your suggestion,I tried that several times with no success --never saw any indication of any software update.
