Without Dice-K and Jon Lester this year, the Red Sox would be battling the Orioles for the AL East basement!
Just found out that I will be going to the Indians vs. Chicago White Sox game on Monday! On this day, Cliff Lee will be pitching and going for his 20th win. This is significant as Cleveland hasn't seen a 20 game winner in 34 years, last accomplished by Gaylord Perry.
D-Backs, Angels Interested In Eckstein

The Angels have been in pursuit of infield depth this week, and were rumored to be finalizing a deal with the Blue Jays for veteran shortstop and 2006 World Series MVP, David Eckstein until a "mystery" team entered the running.
Ken Rosenthal is now reporting that the mystery team is the Arizona Diamondbacks. Both teams are looking to finalize the deal before Sunday's deadline for setting post-season rosters.
The Angels would mainly use Eckstein as a backup, but the D-backs need a boost in the infield since Orlando Hudson is out for the rest of the season.
It seems the Diamondbacks are the team with the most urgent need for Eckstein's services, but a return to Anaheim would be a homecoming of sorts. Where would he be a better fit?

A few tidbits from the Red Sox 8-2 win over the White Sox on Saturday night:
* Dustin Pedroia went 4-4 for the second straight game, and became the first Red Sox player to have back-to-back four hit games since Wade Boggs in 1989. After the game Ozzie Guillen called Pedroia "one of the best players in baseball". Pedroia is now in the middle of the MVP discussion as he leads the AL in a lot of offensive categories (lack of HR's will probably do him in, and I think that's a shame).
* Jason Bay had two more RBI's to raise his total to 29 in 26 games in a Sox uniform. To be fair, Me-Me has continued to be hot, hitting .419 for the Dodgers, and he had two more HR's on Saturday night. He's the only one hitting in that lineup.
*21 year old Michael Bowden won his first ML start. Bowden is considered one of the Red Sox top prospects.
*Mark Kotsay is now 6-13 with 4 doubles and 4 RBI's in three games for the Red Sox.
*The Red Sox played without Kevin Youkilis and Coco Crisp, both out with the flu. The Sox are already playing without Mike Lowell, J.D Drew, Sean Casey, and Julio Lugo (no big loss). Pedroia batted cleanup in the Sox make-shift lineup Saturday night.

- Sources tell Sherman that Steinbrenner wants to make CC Sabathia the highest paid pitcher ever.
- Sherman thinks Shane Victorino would be a nice fit for the Yankees in center field.
- Some Yankees officials are toying with the idea of trading some of their young pitching if the Yankees do land Sabathia and another veteran such as AJ Burnett. Sherman thinks a player like Phil Hughes could be used to land a young center fielder or first baseman such as Joey Votto of the Reds.
- Sherman feels giving Mark Teixeira a 10-year deal would be a mistake.
- Sherman also wonders if Robinson Cano should be dangled this off-season in an attempt to land a starting pitcher like Zach Greinke, Chad Billingsley or Matt Cain.
- Sherman thinks the Yankees should offer Bobby Abreu arbitration in hopes of landing two draft picks, and says if Abreu accepts the arbitration it would not be a terrible thing, but would force somebody else to be moved.

I know what you mean, but I'd like an explanation and how you look at the Cards like I view the Spurs.
For some reason I've always found myself rooting against the Cardinals. I've never cared for Tony LaRussa, but I think it's more than that.
I want the Mets, Cubs, Brewers, or Phillies to represent the NL in the World Series. If the Cardinals or D-Backs somehow get in there, I'll be lulled to sleep!
Still a bit ironic, because Boston teams have always fared well against St. Louis teams:
Super Bowl XXXVI, 2004 World Series, 1970 Stanley Cup Finals, and Bill Russell against Bob Pettit.
It has nothing to do with being a Boston sports fan. I couldn't stand those Cardinals teams that played on the carpet and stole a gazillion bases (Willie McGee, Vince Coleman), but hit about 80 homers a year. I know these Cardinals aren't like that , but it's LaRussa's smugness that does it for me now.
