Did the Dodgers have a rich uncle nobody knew about?? Where did they get all this money all of a sudden? Weren't they broke months ago?
You're kidding right? You know about their new ownership?
I dont know why they would want Crawford AND Beckett. Crawford has been injury prone in his years in Boston and Beckett has pretty much given up.
Probably because they could not get Gonzalez without taking them. And they did not give up a whole lot for them, only one Major League player and 5 prospects.

The Sox are getting James Loney, Jerry Sands, Ivon DeJesus, Ruby De La Ros, and two other minor leaguers.

Dear all-knowing, all-powerful baseball gods,

could you please end this season like yesterday.

thanks your the bestest baseball gods evah,

signed whats left of Red Flops Nation :o

I was talking to the baseball gods, not you Dr. Kevorkian! :D

EXACTLY right!! Gonzo was the sacrifice the Sox had to make for the Dodgers to take Crawford and Beckett.

BTW, I have nothing against Gonzo, he's a great player. But in retrospect, I don't think he has the makeup to play in the Northeast. I wish him well.

Oh no, not Nick Punto?!!

He's at least as valuable as Pokey Reese. Or Stan Papi.

Actually, this trade demonstrates the economic principle of optimization, which is to say that even though Gonzalez is worth the $21 million a year to the Red Sox that they are presently committed to paying him, he is worth more than that to the Dodgers, so that is where he should go, and then it is a matter of negotiating the distribution of what economists call the "transaction surplus" that is generated by moving him to the environment in which he is most valuable.

I think Gonzales attitude sucked, I'm not disappointed to see him go.

Thank you Dodgers for freeing the Sox of their salary albatrosses. Now they have salary flexibility in the future. I really would not of cared if they got a bucket of balls and a rusty batting cage in return.

Now if they can purge themselves of Lackey in the offseason, I think clubhouse order will be restored.

What the hell, bring back BobbyV, see what he can do with a non-toxic clubhouse.

As a Sox fan this has been the best day in the last calendar year.

I think all of this is being done to do just that, KEEP Valentine.

Gonzalez isn't the attitude problem. He was always well respected in SD. In fact, he approved the trade partially because he wanted to leave that toxic environment (of course one is coming with him). The attitudes are/were Youkilis, Pedroa, and Beckett, plus a few less prominent players.

What bothers me is Beckett's attitude and Crawford's injuries. Of course the Dodgers know Crawford won't be ready until sometime next season.

He was part of the problem, I don't believe for 1 second that his cell phone was hijacked by Kelly Shopach.

To think that Pedroia was a problem, and he wasn't is funny

Ya think, even with half the team moving on ?

I don't understand why this trade would change Valentine's status with the team (whether he's a goner or not). Besides, everyone knows Valentine was only a bridge between Tito and the next manager (PLEASE, John Farrell) anyway.

I don't think Toronto is going to let him out of the contract. Maybe they could "trade" for him like the Marlins did with Guillen.

It's being reported that the Dodgers are gonna pick up 96% of the Crawford/Gonzalez/Beckett contracts. How the Sox are getting anything back in return, let alone good prospects, blows my mind!
