MLB 2012 Season

One thing I like about the MLB All-Star Game- the players are able to wear their own jerseys.

I wish the NHL would do it, or the NBA goes back to it (they did it in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002)

What are your biggest ASG memories? I have a few.....

1999- Ted Williams comes out in a cart at Fenway Park, and is then surrounded by players from both sides at the mound

1999- Fenway favorite Pedro Martinez strikes out Barry Larkin, Larry Walker, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and Jeff Bagwell over the first two innings

1983- Angels Fred Lynn hits a grand slam at Comiskey Park as the AL ends a long losing streak to the the NL

1979- Pirates Dave Parker guns down the tying running at the plate in the bottom of the 9th at Seattle's Kingdome

1990- remembered more for the long rain delay at Wrigley Field, and CBS decision to air Rescue 911 during the delay (can you imagine NBC ever doing that??)

I was only 8 yrs. old in 1990 and vaguely remember the ASG. Looking at some info. about the game, CBS did get a lot of flack for showing Rescue 911 during the rain delay.

I remember the Ted Williams segment in 1999. No arguments that Ted Williams was a legend but I remember most is Pedro being vintage Pedro. Ive said it before, imagine if Pedro had a very good number 2 behind him?

How about the 2008 game which in Yankee Stadium went 15 innings? That was a long game. And yes, 2002, just because of the tie. I remember when the game was declared a tie, the crowd booed like crazy.

I've said it before but some don't agree with me. The younger generation don't have an interest in baseball like we did. And it doesn't help when games go on and on . 5 plus hours etc.

I absolutely agree with this. When I was a kid, we were out all day in the summer playing baseball, only taking a break to eat. I look around at my local ball fields (and there are a lot), and I swear I can see tumbleweeds blowing across the diamond. Sad really.

As far as TV goes, I think it's a combination of too many distractions and over saturation of games on the air. I remember when NBC's Saturday GOTW and ABC's Monday Night Baseball were actual events.

I know this might sound trivial but it has been really hot so far this summer. I dont blame kids not going outside. Its been way too hot. I mowed my lawn last week and thought I was going to pass out.

We used to play baseball BECAUSE even though it was hot outside, it wasn't as hot as inside. As we had alrady seen the Bob Hope/Bing Crosby and Gene Kelly movies and Crazy Cat cartoons a zillion times.

The NL and is spanking the games best pitcher. And the NL isn't even playing their best players.

Ironic that two of the players whom shouldn't even be starting for the NL, one of whom shouldn't be there at all, are responsible for 5 of the 8 runs so far.

I have been so impressed with Milky Cabrera.

And the team that had 'inferior' pitching and hitting...is outhitting and outpitching the 'superior' team.

And those outside the stadium can see his shoes.

Just think, if this were the NFL, he would be fined for wearing those unauthorized shoes.

Sorry, but I have to call bullsh*t. They were voted into the starting lineup and that's the only criteria for starting. So they should be starting, just like everyone else who was voted into the starting lineup. Do I think Sandoval is having an all star year? Nope. But he got the votes, so he deserves to be starting based on the rules of the current system. I definitely think that MLB has it wrong with the current set up, but everyone had the chance to vote for someone else other than Sandoval. As for Melky, he's having a hell of a year. I have no problem with him starting for the NL.
