Comcast the largest cable operator and its next three biggest competitors lost 229 000 subscribers as college students ended subscriptions and satellite competitors offered lower prices. DirecTV Group Inc. and EchoStar Communications Corp. the two largest U.S. satellite-TV companies added 795 000 users as they joined with phone companies to sell a package of services.
