If the global warming theories are correct we can expect a 50% increase in lightning strikes.

Better make sure those satellite dishes and antennas are grounded properly.:)

Its snowing here indiana. If we have a 50 degree winter it would be bad. We would have a hot summer after that.

Let's be sure to keep the politics out of this thread everyone. Thanks.

Need a lightening rod to divert the lightening away from equipment for a direct hit but then again the static/strike might be so close that it might do more good than harm.

Global warming is supposed to cause some locations to get warmer while causing other locations to get colder (for a while). The melting ice caps makes the oceans colder in certain regions which can cause colder air to drop down which is what we are seeing. Once the ice caps are gone then a change to warmer winters than what we had before it got colder. Mother nature seems to have ways to correct problems though and I seen where some of the ice caps were coming back.

There hasn't been any "warming" in 18 years and this past summer there were LESS lightning strikes around my house than I can remember for a while. And just an FYI for you, lightning strikes produce nitrogen, which is one of the gases in our atmosphere that are not only needed by plants as fertilizer but also by humans. So nitrogen, just like CO2 are NEEDED in order to sustain life as we know it on earth.

As far as satellite system grounding goes, there's a bunch of threads here already that discuss this in depth. Just do a SatGuys search for "Grounding" and see how many come back. Here's a few links to get you started.

:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm What a bunch of rubbish. Maybe more taxing and regulation will decrease lightning strikes. The point is, don't fall for the main party line of what is being shoved down your throat! Taxing and regulation, can't and won't change the weather.

As raoul5788 (a staff member) said in post 8, let's keep politics out of this. There is nothing in the article regarding taxing or regulation and I did not say it's true. It is in reference to something that was published in the journal Science and I posted it here for the aspect of how it might affect us if it turned out to be true - no more, no less!

I don't believe all of what I said was political, just the part about "following the mainstream party line," that seems slightly political. But really how can weather be changed by humans? Lets not kid anyone, it will lead to taxing and more regulations, that isn't political, that is the truth.

Can humans change the weather? For as smart as we claim to be, we have managed to mess up just about everything else we have come in contact with, so...? The point is nobody knows for sure. I was just putting forth something that might affect our hobby (and safety) - not looking to go down 'party' road. If we do, then admins please lock or delete the thread.:)

Well I'll add my political $.02 and then drop it.
Global Warming is pure politics and nothing more.Climate Change,on the other hand is a fact, the fact being that the climate has never stopped changing since there's been a climate.

I am in agreement with that, however when taxing and regulating is brought up by the usual crowd to change the weather, then that is where I don't believe it any more.
