I have a 1tb WD MyBook that is 3/4 full with movies that sounds like it is failing. I plugged in another 1tb WD MyBook and it formatted fine. Then I was going to start the process of moving movies from one drive to the other. BUT, when I unplug the newly formatted drive and plug the other one (with movies on it) it says I have to reformat the drive.

It was my understanding that you could have more than one HD for one receiver, you just couldn't use both at the same time.

Any recommendations

Power off the EHD, then to a hard reset (pull plug for 10 seconds) on you receiver. When receiver comes back life, power EHD back on and wait for confirmation.

Thanks for the reply. Followed your instructions exactly and it's sill saying the drive needs to be re-formatted. Any other suggestions?

So they are not connected at the same time, correct? Try plugging the old one in only. Then reset both the hard drive and the receiver power cables. See what happens.
