I think a big factor these days too is the group ownership of broadcast stations. So the subchannels you get may be largely due to who owns your local stations. If CBS owns a local station, you'll probably get Decades. If ABC owns a local station, Laff. FOX? Movies! and Buzzr. Tribune? Antenna TV. And so on. Besides ownership of a multicast network, there are also lots of group affiliation deals. So Scripps TV stations picked up Laff, but Sinclair stations may carry something else.
