I am starting this thread to go through the whole installation process. I have posted a few pictures of the installation which I am going to repeat in this thread and add a few more.

First let me say that the installer was very aware of the VOOM installation. He connected the satellite and connected two inputs to my TV. One went to the component input and the other went to a regular composite input. He used the composite input to troubleshoot the installation. The problem he is having right now is that the VOOM guide came up without downloading the software. This caught him by surprised. He said that this was the first time he had seen it this way. Maybe it had to do with the download VOOM did, yesterday. Well, the installation is over after the Recovery procedure was done. I have posted pics to this. I still do not get the locals and that will be another adventure. Let me go back and see how everything looks. More to come...

WOW. Why do the two dishes seem to be pointing so differently?
It's not subtle. They look like two very different targets.

This is preliminary but I do not like the picture on component. It looks very soft. I will try DVI.

It still looks like your dishes are pointed in different directions. You should not be getting a "soft" picture via component. On my Fujtisu the picture is virtually identical on both DVI and component. Check to make sure the box is outputting 1080i.

Here are pics of the system status...

Do the number of satellite strengths look ok to everyone else that gets VOOM? How about the number for OTA reception?

Is the top light on the receiver the 1080i?

is it
1080i
720p
auto
480i
from top to bottom?

The Voom is an 18" round (like a Dish300). The E* is a Dish500, which actually points a little east of the actual aim point, because of the skew of the Dish500 itself.

Ken,

I found in your other post how the rez goes:

"get a standard 1080i output when the top long light is lit, 720p for the next light below it, 480p below that and 480i for the light below that. The next push of the red button puts you in a 'native output' mode (where all lights briefly flash) which will output whatever the rez of the broadcast is."

I have spoken to Voom because the mapping that it is shown on the PG is incorrect for my area and the VOOM receiver does not show any of local mappings. My 6000 receiver is showing all the correct mapping and locals. VOOM tech support said that they are aware of the problem and they working on it.

Here is another one of both dishes...

Look at all of those loose wires on the roof! :(

This would never have passed inspection in the Primestar days.

I install professionally and would never leave a job site like this.

A lot of well to do homeowners with million dollar plus homes come to me to do cleanups of those "free" installations.

At the very least, the wires whould be bundled with wire ties and be protected with spiral wrap plastic loom, where it goes over the edge of the roof.

In the case of this installation, I might go feed the wires through the roof and use a 1-1/2 pvc pipe with a trap "U" bend positioned upside down and a vent roof flashing.
