Tonight, there is going to be some kind of obscure record set, so obscure that it won't even be deserved to be counted as trivia. When Steven Strasburg makes his long awaited major league debut tonight, the ratings increase between the previous televised Nationals game and this one will be the greatest percentage increase in successive cable network TV games. This could be a ten-fold increase. It could be a hundred-fold increase.

A couple of years ago, I saw the TV ratings for Nationals games and they were a bad joke. I think they were around 1/3 of what the 29th highest rated team was drawing (probably Pittsburgh or Kansas City). And unfortunately for the Nationals, with the screwy MASN revenue sharing arrangement they were forced to accept from Peter Angelos, they only will get somewhere around ten percent of the bonus that their newly inflated TV interest will generate.

What will be real funny is to compare the rating from the first 5 innings to the rest of the game. Supposedly Strasburg will only throw 5 innings, max today.

Lets not get TOOOOO excited , like the announcers, afterall he's going up against the Pirates.

Pirates have 2 .300 hitters at the top of the line up and the rest are .260 and below, much below.

Who's getting excited???

I'm just stating the obvious, this kid looks VERY impressive......21 years old with all this attention, and he's acting like he's been up in the majors for years....what poise!!!

Now 11 K's through 6 innings. And I don't care if he's pitching against the sisters of the poor. Besides, last time I checked, the Pirates are STILL a ML team! ;)

Nats now leading 4-2 in top of 6th.
Code:
Pitcher IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA
S Strasburg 6.0 4 2 2 0 11 1 81-54 3.00
No one warming up for Washington.

Really ?????
Well, I guess it could be Baltimore ....
Pirates are only 9.5 GB, Baltimore is 21 ...
Didn't realize that the Pirates were that much better than Baltimore.

You're absolutely right! :up

If I'm the Nats, I send this bum down to AAA immediately. I mean seriously, what kind of pitcher dominates the Pirates!

The MLBNet coverage is their own coverage with their own announcers (Bob Costas), instead of just broadcasting a feed from one of the teams

It looks like @ Cleveland on Sunday.

Sounds like an ESPN prime time game to me then. Maybe I'll watch the game on ESPN Deportes. There is nothing more exciting than a goal in soccer("Gooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllllllllllll") or a home run in base ball("no,no,no.....no,no,no......no,no,no,no,no,no,no........") when each are being broadcast on a Spanish network.

Strasburg looking dominant so far..............

Struck out the side in the 2nd, and 4 K's overall through two innings

OK, I'm a DOPE .....
Very nice start to a young and promising career :up

Now will the Nats build around him, or keep who they have and flounder .....

How long is Strasburg contract for, so we know how long he'll be in Washington before moving to the Big Apple.
