I live in a condo and can't install on the balcony, so the only option for installation is the roof. The condo has a metal bar which is attached to the roof for dishes, but the installer told my wife that the bar cannot support the larger HD dish since it has the arms coming off the sides which need to be welded to something (??).

Holes in the roof are not an option, because it would void the warranty on the roof installation. Am I out of luck, or is there some free-standing contraption which would support an HD dish?

The answer came from the installation company themselves, confirming my bit of internet research - they can use a so-called non-penetrating roof mount.

The thing consists of a flat metal frame and a pole sticking out of it. They lay the frame on the roof, secure it with cinder blocks or bricks, and viola! Hopefully, if anyone else runs into this problem, they can find this post.

Re-scheduled the appointment for Thursday, and keeping my fingers crossed.
