New 118.7 Information

118.7 This new Satellite will host internationals HD LIL's
119 SD Core Programming and SD LIL's
129 National HD and HD LIL's

It'd be nice to be able to put national HD, HD LIL currently on 61.5, and internationals on 118.7. That way, east coast HD and/or international customers can just have one dish for everything on the Dish 500+. National HD on 129 won't help us east coast subs that can't see 129 so I guess if national HD can't go on 118.7, we'll still need a wing dish.

Now some questions. Do they have space to put national HD, HD LIL currently on 61.5, and all internationals? Are they going to put all internationals on 118.7? Otherwise a Dish1000+ sub will need a non-existent DPP54 switch since they'll need a Dish1000+ and a wing dish for which a Dish1000+ already requires a DPP44 switch.

I still believe we will have 105 superdishes, however those will be used for commercial reasons (BTV type stuff)
Clever use of existing SUPERDISH105 inventory! We tried to sell to financial institutions but DISH Commercial has some exclusive deals with them.

Now it looks like they are putting things on the 110 some.

Damn! I was hoping they would move the Atlanta HD locals from 129 to 118.7. Looks like we're going to be on the crappy bird for a long long time. Dish has not given me any reason to upgrade to the vip622. I'll live with OTA HD for right now. :(

Northeast money

It seems like E* is giving the Northeast to D* and big cable. In an area where houses tend to be on top of each other and apartment buildings cover the landscape, a true one-dish solution for mainstream programming is a necessity (and I would argue that HD programming is quickly becoming mainstream.) D* has a one dish solution and big cable doesn't need one, but E* isn't even trying. They moved sd locals onto the main dish, but then stuck hd locals on the wing.

I can only assume someone did a cost/benefit analysis and decided they wouldn't be able to make a significant dent in the market. I hope FIOS TV doesn't come to the same conclusion...

I'm not following you. For HD locals, Dish already has NY & Boston launched and Burlington, Vt and Providence, RI are in the list of 50 to be done by the end of the year. What's left in the Northeast ?

Another New Dish?

That should be interesting if St Louis HD channels are on the 118. We are going to have to go back out to all of these houses where we are putting up Dish1000's for Mpeg4 receviers, to upgrade their dishes. O well, job security

I live in St. Louis and had my 1000 installed in March. Does this mean I should contact dish about getting a new dish or should I sit tight for awhile?

Scott, any word on Atlanta HD locals? Are they going to stay on 129 or move somewhere else? Any chance they will be mirrored on 61.5?

I really really wish they would get their heads out of their a@@ on this one and do something about the Atlanta HD locals. Mirror them on 61.5, put them on 110, put them on 118.5, anything has to be better than the current situation.

I totally agree, would be best to have them at 110/119 or at least mirror them on 61.5.

Just sit tight for awhile until everything becomes official.

How many times has Dish moved the internationals now? 4 maybe 5 times, each time requiring some new hardware. I feel sorry for anyone with an international package on Dish. Once they get spotbeams going on 129 they will probably get moved again.

If they move all the HD to 129 then Hawaii and Alaska get screwed again.

At least now I can get some HD from 110, but Dish won't activate anything for 129.

Hey Dish , we are part of America remember?

Absolutely! However, I'm wondering how are you able to activate HD programming for just the 110 channels? I thought that all new HD programming activations had to be one of the "Metal" packages.

Well maybe they put the St.Louis Locals HD on the 110 or 129 and can folks in Hawaii and Alaska can they not use a Dish 1000? If they can then they should be able to get the 129 then and from the 1000 FootPrint Map it show's them in white. Only areas that are excluded are parts of FL and most of the New England states.
