HERE TO HELP YOU!
Welcome to DirecTV Widgets

Widgets is a new feature coming to your HR2* network connected DVRs.

DirecTV Widgets is similar to what many of you have seen in the Windows and Mac worlds (and some other environments).

-) There will be DirecTV supplied Widgets
-) There will be 3rd Party supplied Widgets
-) And there will be USER created Widgets

All of which will be accessible to any networked HR2* DVR.

Some of you have already seen the "Coming Soon" Widget recently. Thus you have an idea of how it will work in the HR2*.

But for others, here is a quick break-down.

First: You need decide what Widgets you want on what DVR. It wouldn't be very productive for every single widget to be on every DVR.

When the full service is launched, you will have access to a selection website to pick and choose your widgets... again, from DirecTV, 3rd Party, and User Created.

Next: After selecting your widgets, click on the right arrow on your DirecTV remote control. This will slide open the Widget Dock and you will be able to view your Widgets.

That's it. If you want 1 Widget, or many: same process.

So, where is it all at? Well you Cutting Edgers have an opportunity to help get the Widgets ready for Jane/Joe public.
Just like you helped with MediaShare, DirecTV On-Demand, DVR Scheduling, and many other areas. We need your participation with the Widgets.

To get started: We need some information from you.

Head over to: Widget Trials: Landing

And submit your details if you are interested in participating in the field trials.

The field trial is going to have several phases. Some will be Private (by selection only), others will be open to the public CE process.

If you are selected to be part of one of the Private phases, you will be contacted and given access to a private forum area on your forum.

If it is something everyone can do with a CE version of software, then something will be posted in the general CE areas on your forum.

Similar to some of the other trials; Widgets may not always be available during the early parts of this trial.

We may have to take down or update pieces during the initial phases. Most likely we may do this during the daytime hours (we like to sleep sometimes during "traditional" night time hours)

We may also have to "reset" everything on occasion; which may cause you to have to reselect your Widgets or rebuild your custom ones.

We will try to keep those to a minimum and make announcements when we know about it ahead of time.

So welcome to Widgets.

Where the limit only exists in our users minds.

UPDATE: Please login to http://www.iamanedgecutter.com/Projects/Widgets and validate your receiver info after applying...Thanks!

UPDATE 2: ONLY ONE receiver can be applied for the widget trial program. Choose a receiver you want to use widgets on most, then only apply once.

UPDATE 3 (6/12): UPDATE: The first round of invitations for testing has been sent via private message. Please understand that the first round of testers is VERY small compared to the number of submissions. More testers will be added in the days & weeks ahead.

Don, thanks for posting....Im on the road today and limited internet. I'll be entering my application tonight too :)

I just got a note from DirecTV, they are getting lots of applicants (THANK YOU!) however a lot of folks have entered invalid receiver id's.

Please log into the website above and check your receiver ID to make sure you information is correct.

Thanks for helping DirecTV out!

The selection will be a few at first, but more will be added regularly as they work into the trial.

Darren, don't worry if you can't do it today.

correct me if im wrong, but that is NOT the access card number. It is the receiver ID number they want. If so the account info at directv does not list it. It gives the access card number.

That is correct, the only way to get your receiver Id number is to be at your receiver, go to settings and select system information.
