New Dual Tuner OTA Adapter

HDHomeRun - Watch TV anywhere in your home

Good tuners. Network attached; you can view on any device on your wifi. They also have a signal meter for iphone and android which is useful when aiming your OTA antenna(s)

I have one and use Plex to record/view tv with it. It's a great little tuner and cheaper than a Tablo! I tried to find the app you're referencing to help aim the antenna. Do you happen to have a link? The only one I found was one called "channels" that was 20 bucks in the App Store. I'm not sure if that's the one that you were talking about.

I am not a fan of this new dual tuner. It gets really hot and loses signals all the time. When I reboot the hopper all the channels come back but after about ten minutes the signal is lost. I did not have this before the software update that enabled the dual tuner functions

One step forward, six steps back.

People have had this module many months and now with the s/w update to enable dual tuners, problems are only now cropping up?

As far as heat goes, some are saying theirs are real hot while others aren't seeing that. Sounds like a manufacturing defect and some modules have some components slightly out of spec. I don't think it's a case of now there are (2) tuners "working". In this type of module, I suspect both tuners have had power all along. Is the 2nd tuner now generating more heat now that it's actively "on" and working ?

I have the same two issues as you describe. Even with the older software , the module was too hot to be placed inside an enclosed cabinet. Now with the new software, the module's power light is cut off after 10 minutes.

It's called "Signal GH" for Iphone and Ipad. The one for Android is called "Hdhomerun Signal Meter."

I don't think that the heat and lower sensitivity has anything to do with the new software update that enabled the second tuner. Instead, I believe that several owners who already owned the older Dish OTA dongle bought the newer tuner and compared it to the older unit. If you live in a market that has stations that are close and powerful, you will not see any changes in your reception. However, if you are receiving stations from multiple markets that are not close, you lose the weaker stations.

Several have already commented that this uses the Hauppauge tuner which has always run hot. The heat would not be a problem for computers since they are usually out in the open. My Dish Hopper receivers are in closed cabinets. That is the main reason I will not use the new tuner. For those that plan to use the new tuner, I would try to locate the tuner outside of any enclosure. The tuner got so hot that it was almost to hot to hold when I removed it. The old tuner is not hot at all.

Couldn't have said it better. My experience 100%

I am gonna try using a USB extension cable to get the tuner out side of my media cabinet. I will report if that helped at all. Otherwise I am going back to the single tuner.

It probably won't help anything. If the tuner gets too hot it tells you to reboot the Hopper. If you aren't getting that warning you are okay. You can also use the front USB jack to isolate the module.

I have been running daily dual OTA adapter temp test. Both adapters are in the wide open and run around 105 degrees. Both Hopper 3s get the same amount channels as when I was using the single OTA modules. Also, both green lights stay on at all times.

My dual tuner came with an extension cable in the packet. Did yours?
It came with that short extension cable. I ordered a 6 footer. Yesterday when I disconnected the USB tuner I couldnt even touch the R6 cable connector it was so hot. I don't know what this u235 update is I thought it was u500 update that activated the two tuners.
