Their web site seems to almost be responding to our posts in a knee-jerk reaction mode.
Plus, this quote, "Receiver requirements are a digital satellite receiver such as one of the older Dish Network Receivers, Pansat or clone or one of the newer free to air digital receivers available on the market."
That left me with a bad feeling last night.
Now I know what it is... and I think they're full of it. :(

Why would the site say that older Dish Network receivers would be able to receive these FTA channels? Something is not right here.

Other than NASA, ION, Angel and the barker channels...that would be all that could be received. Unless the "older" Dish receivers could be reprogrammed for regular FTA...which they can't according to posts I have been reading. Maybe I am missing something here...

Dish receivers only receive what they're authorized to receive, whether it's FTA or not. Dish unscrambled all their channels last October and subscribers didn't get anything extra.

Unless there's something different about really old Dish receivers, but I think anything that old has probably been thrown out long ago because Dish won't even authorize them anymore. I tossed mine when it became useless even for NASA.

sounds like bull to me

did some googling and found the below on a hacker site.
they seem to have a lot more info than the web site and the post was the same day that the domain was registered, Hmmmmm smells like barn yard to me.

FTA channels in the clear and Ad. supported are in the making with former NASA engineer George Metcalf and others that are in the television broadcasting line of work. Would start out with 20 channels including a News channel , Mountain Music channel, Nature channel ,War movie channel , And others.
Would include a guide that would work on most FTA's . Future channel capacity could be as high as 200 channels. All channels would be in the clear except a PPv movie and fight channel that would work with a access card that plugs in the front of Your FTA receiver. Access cards would be on a yearly fee and available from FTA dealers. A larger Dish would be required 22-32 inch for good reception.

FREEDBS is the site name ,you figure out extension. Hope that helps.

If they are going to have encrypted channels too, maybe they could fake a Dish channel map somehow, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. They haven't actually said they're using Nagra, after all, and in fact I don't think most of the receivers on the U.S. market have a Nagra slot.

There are three possibilities here.

1. It's legit (possible but not probable).
2. Somebody living in a fantasy world.
3. Scam artist setting up a penny stock swindle (Get in on the ground floor and make millions offer).

The O/P from the hacker site was asked to name his source but would not.

I wonder if they will be asking for a credit card number to sign up.

Investment swindle would be more likely.

1. It's harder to prove that there was never an intent to take the business all the way to start up.

2. It could be milked a lot longer than credit card fraud.

3. Some penny stock frauds go on for years. There are constant reports of progress but the project never makes it to fruition. In the mean time the "Officers" of the company pocket everyones investment.

Some older dn and dtv ird's can be flashed with heavily modified firmware to apear as a fortec 2500. The blindscan obv doesn't work, hell the receiver as a whole barley works lol. They wernt designed to run that firmware and is heavily buchard just to get it on there. But it does kinda work. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except someone who just wants to fart around. Defn not a viable solution for a startup company. Esp when there are excellent receivers that can be bought for very cheap like the fortec mecury II.

I mentioned earlier that the proposed satellite company is located on the Ohio River some 15 miles Northeast of Louisville KY on the Indiana side. Interesting that the proposed Billiards Channel is located at Jeffersonville Indiana which is right across the bridge from Louisville KY. Diamond Billiard Products | Address: 4700 New Middle Road Jeffersonville, IN 47130

The website mentions nothing about holding contests or shows, rather it seems that the tables are USED in major tournaments. Maybe the network might be bankrolled by one of the nearby Indiana Casinos...which could mean ... that money for the network would be there. But it is pure speculation on my part.

Think of 20 channels at $15k EACH per month - that is $300K per month or 3.6 Million dollars per year! That would take some real upfront money.

Why would the site say that older Dish Network receivers would be able to receive these FTA channels?

This wording may have been removed. They may have meant fta stbs when they said Dish receivers. If fta means hacking on 90% of the internet then its not too far of a stretch to say that a coolsat (or other formerly hackable) box is an old dish network receiver.

I'm not trying to start an argument on the accuracy of that, just saying that may be what they meant, and have since been set straight.

If I am interpreting their channel lineup correctly they currently only have guaranteed sources for 4 channels so far, Hillbilly, Builders, Billiards, and DBS. Most of the others appear to be a request for content of a certain type. In other words the Cowboy channel doesn't exist but they would like someone who owns a Western channel to contact them and let them broadcast it.

These requested genres on the proposed lineup remind me of the streaming tv channels offered in most of your Free Satellite to Pc packages. I believe the source for those is americafree.tv At first I thought someone was just going to be broadcasting these streaming channels via satellite.

Yup. Either that or they are responding to Bill and other people's emails. If they are watching this thread I'd like them to step up and say hello.

the "___" is messing with us!
The LAST thing Satelliteguys needs is another 25 page thread on this subject. Please let this idea die quickly and quietly.

I wonder if they will get backing from the Indiana Casino's. The casino's could afford it, it would be a write off, the proximity of their HQ to the casino's is real close and the tie in with Diamond Billiards seems to me to point in that direction.

I Googled many of the proposed channels and they do not show up on a Google search except of course for White Springs and Billiards. That Americafree.tv, thanks for the link, this is the kind of stuff that needs to be on FTA.

I have a handful of similar links of streaming stuff that reminds me of or actually overlaps fta. Earlier today I discovered TV Fox which is an add on for firefox which lets you access a mess of "channels".

I've often wondered why we pay to watch commercial tv, you would think that if anything broadcasters would pay to have their channels promoted seeing as how more viewers equals bigger price for commercials. Then on top of that have the option of buying ppv and or premium channels. It could definitely be done but it wouldn't take long before the big dogs bought ya out.
