New HD DVR from D*

Universal remote considerations.

Most, including mine, only do IR.

Both of my D* HD receivers allow you to set them up to be used with either RF or IR. Seen a few things about the new D* DVR but nothing about the remote type. You change it in the setup menu.

If the new DVR uses the D* universal remote, it may work in either mode. Will have to wait and see when it comes out.
