.....
Directv has a new package called "Select" priced @ $44.99. It is apparently only being offered in test markets as of right now. This all started with the new promo. I am hearing that new customers can get it where ever they may be by request. It is not showing on their website, BUT, if you clear your cookies or just the cookies on Directs website and type in zip 37659 & use Washington for the county, you will SEE this new package as an option. There is probably others, but just using this an example.

On a side note, I read so many threads on how someone should sign up for new service. I would just like to point out that your local retailer is a good 1st choice option. From pre install ?'s to getting you the right equipment, don't overlook these guys. Many times they are a valuable asset right in your own community. Not having to deal with call centers, iffy websites, or the new contracted installer doing his or her 1st new install. Everyone has to start somewhere, but just not at my house, right? :) That alone should be enough by itself to not overlook this option.

For those not wanting to clear cookies, I have attached a so so picture of the new package and the channels listed.

Intresting, I remember reading a while back that they wanted to have a entry level package, not bad if you looking to save a few bucks at certain times of the year?

It would be nice if they started offering Select (a competitive package) as a standard offering for everyone, it is a good replacement for the family package which has so little.

Thanks for posting the info. Since they are testing it in parts of TN (and probably other areas), perhaps one day soon we'll see this available everywhere as the norm.

Stonecold, did you see much difference between the new one and the old (now classic)?

From memory the select classic was $39.99 but only available through a CSR and not necessarily automatic.

Curious if they changed channels at all or just upped the price $5 to test it on a more public availability.

Here is another aspect of this scenario. If it does become available nationwide, don't expect it without flaws or mishap. I already see potential problems from a standpoint which I cannot publicly disclose. You cannot pay Peter without robbing from Paul.....that's all I can say about that.

I see that ESPN is in this package, nice bonus for those who may want some sports while they may drop down for whatever reason. If I really saved some bucks I could see myself maybe doing this during summer, when not much TV is watched?

Could this may be a trial to see if it may be a good comparison to those on the Dish side that have Top 120??
