After an issue with my first install (they couldn't get it working in my new apartment complex), I am now having DirecTV installed with two HD DVR boxes and the premier package.

One question I have is, when DirecTV puts out new equipment, is it normally hard to get upgraded to it? Is there anything I should be waiting for around the corner?

There is supposedly a 5 room DVR coming out but I don't know when and or what the requirements to get it will be.
Also, even if it was out, there is no guarantees of models.

As far as upgrading to it later there will probably be 2 ways to it which is either pay for it or to wait until hell freezes over.

Honestly though, just get what you are getting as I suspect it will be a while before we see these being used widely in the field.

Thanks. 5 room DVR is definitely overkill for me so I won't be missing that (just 2 HD DVR's in 2 rooms for me). I just would hate to get service and a month or two later some fancy new DVR is out with other improvements.

I strongly recommend asking the installer for the new HR-24 receivers before installing. The older HD-DVRs are slow compared to the new models.

Yes, that's the HR24. Good for you so you won't get one of the older receivers.
