New to SatelliteGuys , been reading post for awhile , hoped I had FTA figured out , it's harder than I thought . Bought a used coolsat 5000 with old software on it and a 36" dish w/universal lnb . With a cheap Sat-finder I think I tuned in on Galaxy 18 as I want , after bind scan galaxy 18 (it says G 10r 123 on my reciever) I get transponder 12524 V qaulity in the green at 96% and 11674 V at 67% , 27 channels I can't watch , they are all scrambled . on a manual scan of all satelites ;11986 V on NSS7 22.0w and 12530 on amc4 101.0w shows up in the green too . Needless to say , I'm Lost . Thanks for all help I find here , Joe

Under the satellite setup screen for G10KU what are your settings? If you're getting channels in the 12500 range, something is set wrong or you are scanning echostar7 or one of the dishnetwork birds. Linear ku goes from 11700-12200. You should have Universal under lnb type, and 2 freq for it, a 'low' and a 'high'. I think 9750 +10600, maybe your rec inserts that for you. Anyway, there isn't 27scrambled channels on G10R, which is now called G18.

Heh . thanks for info , the freg. setting for scanning G10r is 9.750-10.600 , I don't know if it was set different on that earlier scan or not , I think some of the channels came up duplicate for some reason . I did manually add 11.720 V and some others off LyngSat to the freq. search that should be active FTA on G18, 123 , but no signal quality on those . In the manual search I do find 17 strong freq. in the green , the smallest is 10.874, the largest 12.524 . So from what you told me , the settings are too high and I'm on the wrong satelitte , so far it's still fun , Joe

Settings must be OK , turned the dish more south , haven't found G18 yet , but am now enjoying programing off AMC 4 . I still might need to upgrade my software or channel list to get the channel names ? Satisfied for now anyway , Thanks , Joe

WELCOME!

Like in 1957 Chevy Belair?

Don't worry about the software, most of us think in terms of orbital positions, like 123W since that will never change. I edited my channel list so each channel shows as it's city or origin, IE Marquette, Mi, ABC Puerto Rico, Etc. Kinda cool to show off with.

When you get a decent signal and do a blindscan, Lyngsat can tell you what bird you're really on. Gets way easier with practice. You are doing as well or better than any of us when we got started. Post some pix, we all like pix.

You are on another satelite man. I got my 123 galaxy 18 putting a home made bracket with a lnb linear here are the transponders 11720 and 11800 11805 11855!

The 123 sat is were the 119 of dish is at a little bit to the right!

Finally , Galaxy 18 , on a sunny , calm day . I was starting to think it was a myth . Set the dish a smidge to the right of Sat.121 and just barely dropped elevation , had no signals on manual scans of satelittes ,except one tp on sat.121 flashing between green and red . Did a blind scan and found tp 11799 at 62% quality , wow , it was like ghost hunting . Well Worth It All . It's all fun now !
