One other question I have is will it make a big difference to go from a 31" dish to a 36"? Does a 36" dish pick up more satellites?

With the bigger dish you'll get the weaker transponders better. That (typically) means more channels to watch. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll get more satellites per se.

The bigger dish will also help with rain-fade.

The trade off is, well, it's a bigger dish and will have the tendancy to move around more in the wind. You'll also need a bigger motor to drive it.

Be careful about the pre-wiring in your house, there is probably a splitter somewhere if you have cable in more than one room. If you are going to run satellite over it, make sure the splitter can handle the frequency range of satellite (2Ghz).
