Hi all,

I've never had satellite before, been using over the air HD for a few years and have been happy. Cancelled cable years ago, too pricey. I decided to pony the $19/mo for the Dish Family plan for my toddler (he loves Nick and Boomerang), plus TLC, Fox News, Food for the adults.

Here's my question - I ordered the most basic package, no locals (since I already get them OTA) and no "HD enabling fee". Even though I have an HDTV, I specified the standard def 311 receiver. It looks like S-Video is my best option there. When I display on my TV, will it be 4:3 only? Does the 311 allow you to stretch like the HD receivers? My plasma doesn't have a stretch option, just zoom.

Anything I should be concerned about with this setup?

Thanks!

No, the format is only used in the HD receivers. You will be stuck with the black bars if the tv doesn't have it, which I find suprising. I have two HD tv's and both have the feature to stretch the sd picture from s-video, composite and rf inputs.
