Next Charlie Chat?

Well, it better be more than Starz HD, Bravo HD, and Max HD... we've been waiting for THAT "surprise" a few months now.

Well, I'd be real happy with that "surprise"...

I seem to remember rumors of some good "surprises" back in december. The only surprise we got was charlie saying theres no HD content to carry. Maybe the surprise this month will be that the current HD content is too weak and it will be going away for a few months hehehee.... to make room for more shopping and local chans!

$699 sounds about right if they want to match Direct TVs offer for existing customers on there new HD Direct Tivo also for $699 PRESS RELEASED this Thursday

I just spoke with one of my contacts who tells me to expect some surprises.

They are going to try to stay a step ahead of Rupert and DirecTV. Ultimately this battle will be good for all customers.

Hey well this will be cool.. Hey thanks scott gives me a reason to keep my eyes open!! If we get new stuff or not i am not going to complain and moan at you for the info you get and come true or does not.. Once again thx for a great site!!

Looks like price increases all around on Feb 1! This will probably take up some time on the chat

This is rumored in the other forum, but it fits with previous history.

AT50 renamed AT60 (already has 59 channels not including shopping channels, barkets or sports alternates) No price change.
http://echostar.swiki.net/116

AT100 going up a buck a month and being renamed AT120. (Already has 125 channels not counting shopping channels, sports alternates or barkers)
http://echostar.swiki.net/117

AT150 going up two bucks a month and being renamed AT180 (already has over 180 channels)
http://echostar.swiki.net/118

The value packs going up the same amount as the base package.

America's everything pack going up three bucks.
AEP+locals also going up 3 bucks.
http://echostar.swiki.net/44

Dish Latino and DL Dos going up three bucks a month.
http://echostar.swiki.net/162
http://echostar.swiki.net/239

Dish Latino Max going up two bucks.
http://echostar.swiki.net/290

SURPRISE!!!!

See http://echostar.swiki.net/17 for the price increase history

Remember, this is a rumor (well founded, but a rumor none-the-less) until it is officially announced more than likely on the Charlie Chat.

See ya

So would I...

What new change justifies any price increase? Or is this the way they settled the Turner /Viacom dispute. We all pay an increase. I don't recall that many new channels added this last year except the reality channel which is crap.

I think if this price increase is true we will have a special contest for the Charlie Chat.

I will give a Progressive Scan DVD player to whoever gets on the air and oinks like a pig. :)

Just an idea for now. What do you think?

Deleted i did not see another poster's post with identical info.

Somehow they have to justify the cost of leasing space on Americoms AMC-15 later this year and eating the cost of all the SuperDish's sitting in their E-sphere warehouses.

Seal up the holes and sell them as birdbaths on ebay. :D

I'd do it for a free 921! :wavey:

I just checked my bill online and it said:

DIGITAL HOME PLAN WITH AMERICA'S EVERYTHING PAK, 89.99
2 RCVRS, LOCALS 0.00
ADDL RECEIVER ACCESS FEE 4.99
ADDL RECEIVER ACCESS FEE 4.99
CBS HIGH DEFINITION EAST 0.00
DISH NETWORK HD PACKAGE 9.99
DISH NETWORK HD RECEIVER 149.00
ADDL RECEIVER ACCESS FEE PARTIAL MONTH(S) 12/20-01/14 4.18

Looks like they already went up. They also are charging me for the 6000 I had deactivated...I only have 3 receivers activated.

They were also supposed to waive the HD package fee for 6 months because of the first 811 no-show. Looks like I need to call them.

Lets see, raise the price, drop a number of channels (as many as a dozen or more? OUCH!).

They would probably have to sell the 921 for $699 in order to do any good with selling any of them. Perhaps some of the price increases helps make up for the lost money on the 921's.

For $699, they are still making out like bandits! ;)

How do you figure? The hard drive alone goes for $200. Motherboard, processor and RAM has got to be another $200-300. Now add the cost of two 811s (dual tuners) and you're up over $700 fast.

$200 for the HD alone? NOOO Way. Certainly not on the wholesale, bulk level. Bet it isn't even half. Bet the mobo, cpu and ram is less then $150 combined.

If you believe that's how much it cost, I have some ocean front property in Kansas to sell you! Seriously though, I know it has been reported somewhere (I think on a Charlie Chat) that the 921 cost $1500 dollars to make, but a HDTV cost less than a $100 to make, so surely a 921 can't cost more than a BIG HONKING TV. Besides, I don't know how much of the stuff they make in-house, but remember, most of that stuff is just plastic, and like a previous post stated, even if they don't make most of the stuff, they're getting wholesale prices, and probably even have a deal with the companies for a little discount beyond the wholesale price. I could be totally wrong, but I just can't believe they wouldn't make a killing on the 921 if it was priced at the same price as a 811.
