[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4351601"]NFL draft will expand to three days in 2010 - ESPN[/ame]

I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned yet.

I was going to post it (in the NFL thread since absent OT conversation it'll only get a handful of replies) when news broke actually but the site was down.

I think the move is stupid, it just went from a reason to hang with friends to something, as someone who lives on the left coast, I will miss, or will have to take off work early to watch.

Don't care so much about day two or three, ratings will be good for the first, but the 2nd days will suck. Also loses some of the luster cause there are a lot of trades as people try and grab players who fall from a high first to a low first and/or high 2nd.

WHY? This sounds like a waste to me.
Stupid if you ask me. The only real interest in the draft is in the early rounds. Who's gonna stick around to watch the 3rd day? Who even watches the 2nd day of the draft? I guess it means Mel Kiper will be able to provide even more in depth analysis of offensive guards.

Those same offensive guards that made YOUR Panthers so fearsome on the ground.

Don't make fun of these guys- you never know if they'l be springing Williams for a 74-yard TD run.

Yeah but I don't need the draft day analysis. You know they don't even keep stats on offensive linemen unless you count penalties. The only time anyone focuses on them during a game is when they called for holding or jump offsides. Yet Kiper yaps and yaps about the trap blocking skills of these guys or how well they get out of their stance. Whatever. It's like analyzing how well the holder sets the ball on field goals.

If they were going to add the third day, I would have liked it to be friday night, I can somewhat see there reasoning as friday nights are typically not big tv nights. But if you are a fan who watches the draft, you will be there for a Friday

I hate the 3 day idea .... that said :

Now it doesn't tie up my Saturday, normally I only watch the 1st round and a little of the 2nd round anyways.

It says the 1st round will "Start" at 7:30 on Thursday
Is it going to be done by 11 pm for the local news ?
Are they carrying it into Friday ?

Whats they should do is move the rounds to less time between picks, I think they moved the 1st round to 10 minutes instead of the 15 it use to be ... So they have made the picks quicker and made it cover MORE time

ESPN doesn't have local news, but based on what it said in the story it will be done in time for the 11pm SportsCenter.

The NFL said the first round lasted just under 3½ hours in 2009, which would fit neatly into a prime-time slot.

It's not too much of a stretch, really. The NBA draft is in Primetime (albeit only 2 rounds). The big reason it's on Thursday is it's the biggest night of the week for watching TV ratings wise. I usually watch up until the Broncos first pick. Beyond that it's a snorefest.

I have always failed to understand the interest in the NFL draft.

There are actual sports being played on other channels.

After the draft is over, I spend less than an hour online and learn everything about it I need to.

Me too. I never watch it. I would rather watch baseball.

I usually see the 1st couple picks but then turn it off

How people watch what was the 2nd day is beyond me.

"Here in the 5th round is the Detroit Lions pick that use to be with Green Bay until they traded it to Dallas who gave up the pick to Detroit to sign a 6th linebacker who is on the practice squad....they pick ___________________ out of the University of Lower D-III college."

Boy that might help them this year
